Fought a couple more wars. Moscow went to war with Novgorod, and the latter called on me while the former got my (unvassalizable) ally Finland. So I figured this was a good chance to force Finland to rejoin the Scand Imperium. (you know, I really should've titled this AAR The Emperor of the North ;) ) I sent my cav army in Danzig to take over the NW fragment of Poland and my Swedish Occupation Force to beat up Finland. I eventually got cash from Poland, and Nyland plus the province to the north and vassalization and cash from Finland. Then it was on to the relief of Novgorod, who ended up making a separate peace with Moscow giving up a couple more provinces. This made my possision tenuous, so after a glorious attempt to make the most of it, I ended up paying 25 ducats for peace. Swedish patriots took over the province SW of Stockholm near the end of that war, but with the return of the SOF things returned to normal.

In all this time I left my fleet in Orkeny, knowing France and England would have to go to war sometime and I wanted to be prepared. Prussian nationalists rose up in Danzig (2/8) and were too much for my 3 regiments of cav. I kept retreating to preserve my army and building more troops nearby, but they took the city. Before I could take it back, the war I had been waiting for broke out. I waited to answer the call until my fleet and cav were on their way to Iceland. The English never bothered to challenge my fleet blocking the straits from Scotland, so my own province was never at risk. Eventually I took both sides of Iceland, and then moved on to Ireland. I managed to get one side (I forget now which) in a peace deal.

I should, really. I used to use Earthlink for my ISP, but now I have Roadrunner, and I'm not sure how to use it that way, and don't know how to get screenshots onto Photobucket or something like that.

Meanwhile, I've been fighting Swedish patriots in Finland and Prussian patriots in Danzig (only took two combats to defeat them this time  ) and completed my mission to incorporate Pommerania into my empire. My next mission was to swallow Finland, but I really want one to do it to Sweden (hurry up Scandinavia), so I swapped it for ... build a navy to be proud of, which would mean laying down ~30 new ships. Oh well, better luck next time.

Finally got to Gov't 9, and chose QftNW. Then it was follow the trail blazed by Erik the Red and Leif Erikson: Orkney to Iceland to Greenland to Vinland. Established new colonies along the way; one in southernmost Greenland (wiped out the natives - too high agressiveness to get any pop growth) and both sides of Newfoundland. Portugal beat me to Belle Isle or whatever it's called.

Oh, and failed to keep track of my finances and took a loan before I realized it was coming.

Going to colonize the new world? Hopefully England isn't already there or that would be a bummer.
I think, but I haven't checked, that only Portugal has taken QftNW (besides me now).

I checked, and at least Castille and Great Britain have QftNW as well. We'll see what happens; so far I've only seen me and Portugal having colonies, but I haven't made it that far yet.

I've been playing rather peacefully. As soon as I could I dumped my fleet mission and got one to discover Arguin, so I arranged for access from Portugal and sailed my explorer over to the Moroccan coast, and just kept sailing back and forth until I spotted land. That mission was replaced by one to make Vinland (yeah, that's not the name, but it's the province) a city. So I'm travelling the slippery slope of borrowing to pay for colonists and workshops, as I finally made it to Production 9.

Hopefully I'll do better in the game than in real life.

that is risky. Loans don't normally pay off unless in a pinch.
Especially as the default for loans seems to be a year's income. Most games of EU1 and EU3, I took loans for the first ~1/3 of the game and then stopped taking any because I could make more from one month's minting than from loans. BTW, my inflation is now around 7%. :(

How many colonies do you have?
Currently, both provinces in Newfoundland are cities, just made Innu a colony, and there's my first colony in southern Greenland. I had a mission to found a colony at Arguin, so I sent a colonist there and then let them die off from native aggressiveness (in this case a 9).

My current mission is to absorb Finland, which will give me a core on Savolax.

The interest must be a pain to pay off. I suggest not buying or doing anything other than saving money. It may be inconvienant, but keeping outstanding loans is never a good idea for your treasury.

Or sell provinces to get more cash... ;)
Never; I worked hard for all those provinces! The third loan came while I was on crusade against the Golden Horde, just for the sake of being on crusade. None of my enemies would pay reparations, then my treasury ran out, and then they were all too happy to pay me cash. I did something similar after paying off my loans; I declared war on that Z. country down in the Ukraine, which was legit as France gained a province next to it during the crusade, just to raise war taxes for a while and get cash off of them.

Current mission is to raise relations with the TO. This time I'm going through with it.

Been there, done that. Then got Accumulate Money, which meant waiting until New Year's Day for my ~130 ducat census taxes.

Still waiting for Incorporate Sweden so I can quickly form Scandinavia.
