Last time I tried though, I couldn't become the leader of the league. How did you manage that?

I feel like I cheesed it... Austria was rivalled to Spain, England and France(they got the BI like 5 years in) and those all joined my side, and I managed to fire the league before PLC, Russia or the ottomans could join in, was about 400k vs about 100k... My 80k troops didnt even lift a finger during the 2 years of war it took

I don't have a problem with a large war. The main issue is to be League Leader. That's why I've declared on the first day. Didnt want to start campaign from scratch

I think most people advocate seiging down secondary participants to peace them out quickly, but personally I swear by my tactic of grouping up with a large allied country, keeping your armies together and ensuring you both win the big battles handily. Follow them around like a shadow and if they clash with a big enemy army then you can reinforce to keep your strongest ally in good shape. This also allows you to force favourable engagements yourself, the importance of which your nearby ally should recognise and jump right in.

It's all very well sieging a bunch of capitals, but if your allies are getting annihilated in the meantime then you'll soon find yourself hopelessly outnumbered.

yeah you leave 1 stacks keeping important sieges alive (far from the "main" front, whichever you want to paint but the rest reinforce winnable battles, or scare enemy stacks from sieges so they dont get any progress but you do

That only works with similar odds. When you're down 2 to 1 or at least 1,5 to 1, winning battles won't be a viable strategy in the long term.
