Going it alone: US in random ai game

Well, had this happen...

I’ve been trying various US runs, never really played them before.

UK went monarchist, so did Germany. Portugal, Spain, and France all went communist.

Fascist Japan opens on China. Conquers all of the Chinas and most of Asia rather quickly.

Italy attacks Greece. Greece joins commintern. Romania had guaranteed Greece, they join commintern too.

Germany forms central powers.

UK had lost its colonies, but each has a civil war and UK takes them back (except India, which split with Pakistan).

Italy joins Japan. Now eco sphere is at war with commintern. Italy dows France, Spain, and Portugal, who all join commintern.

USSR dows Poland, who joins central powers, and middle east countries who all join japan.

UK joins central powers.

So its UK+Germany vs Russia, and Japan+Italy vs Russia.

Then asian sphere dows on central powers (forget who started it). So 3 major factions, each at war with the other two.

And I’m like, ‘uh, hey guys, what about me?’

I almost went fascist, but after some deliberation went new deal. When japan dow’d Russia, I started down the tree towards joining commintern, but couldn’t bring myself to finish it.

I was hoping to join Canada’s faction, until UK took her back.

So I made the hemisphere faction. At least Mexico stayed demo for once, and is a nice secondary.

But man... things weren’t looking great. I figured I’d have to open on someone before a faction got too strong, and while everyone had two enemies already.

I feared Japan the most, because they have all of asia already, but wasn’t ready for a pacific naval war yet.

So I dow’d the UK. Took Canada, and now I’m halfway down England.

Central powers took france, spain, italy, and portugal.

And then the soviets. So russia is now half german, half polish.

UK kept dowing pacific countries, so a few minors like bangladesh joined me, and India joined japan.

Really interesting game so far (‘43 I think).

For the first time I converted cruisers into carriers.

UK was destroying my convoys, and I was -73 iron at one point, low on everything else, but I took UK malaysia which helped with rubber. Then switched my economy (was dealing with a crisis so it took a long time to get the pp).

Japan then helped in pacific by securing australia and nz (but not before i made a beachhead in australia for the resources).

Japan won’t sign a nap with me, but we are on the same side in a war now, so maybe they can’t dow me? I only have one fleet and few divisions in the pacific.

Anyways, really interesting game so far.

edit: jeez... I just realized demo US is effectively in a faction with fascist japan

edit 2: any guesses as to what I have to take to end the war with central powers? Just london and berlin? or do i need to retake europe and russia too?

Resolving my resource dilemma was def a high watermark in the central powers war.

Strategically, UK was the best option to dow. I had been prepping Guam, and fortifying Midway and Hawaii, but all of the island hopping and then trying to invade Japan was out of reach for my still smallish military. But I wanted to dow asap to get minors in my faction.

So I went with UK, figuring I had just enough troops to swarm canada and defend my coast - and because western europe was holding out against germany and i wanted to get over there while germany had a two front war.

I started securing malaysia right away with a small marine force, bulk of my offense was in canada ( i wanted newfie for the quick hop to england), but my small invasion force in europe i had to call back.

As Russia was shrinking my resources started taking a big hit - first convoys came through med, then baltic, then nowhere. Netherlands had rubber, but UK was eating convoys.

When France fell, my iron was almost gone, then when russia fell i couldn’t even repair my fleets. Frkn military malcontent ate my pp so i was stuck in export focus, -70+ iron but exporting about 1000.

Took a long time, but finally switched economy and industry was running like a dream. Dominated seas to england and invaded. Now slogged down north of london while I restructure divisions, regroup, and retrain. Seas are green and skies are yellow/green.

Three things:

1) sp rocket artillery in 40w with 3 light tanks is pushing me through, not my medium armor divisions

2) converting the 3 cruisers (while maintaining 3 yorktown lines) paid off, with about 15 carriers now, no carrier cas, all fighters n bombers, long as i keep repair on high i can dominate key sea zones

3) heavy fighters are greatly helping keep skies clear

debating heavy tanks.... its 8 factories per 15 slots of chromium? Probably need 32 factories? I’ve been using at guns and spaa. 32 factories is just over 2 build slots. Think I have about 12 atm.
