I doubt that will happen anytime soon. The Multiplayer System in particular acts as a DRM. And a quite effective one at that. Will wait until this comes out on a DRM free site like Gog.com.
Well, you're never buying it then. Paradox made a decision quite awhile ago to only distribute over Steam, as maintaining separate releases wasn't working out for them.
That should just about cover it. Paradox titles by themselves has never had any DRM as i can recall (at least the internally developed games). My understanding is that they still dont, and that their distribution platform (Steam) acts as the DRM.This feels like a stupid question, but what DRM are we talking about? The closest thing to a DRM I'm aware of is that you (kinda) need to have Steam, and there's a CD key required to play online. Oh, and you need to register the game to make full use of this forum.

Just buy directly from Paradox, I am sure if anything ever happened to steam they would not abandon their fans

Steam itself is a DRM. Indeed being DRM is what it gives to the game developers. Pretty good DRM too (it will cache wich games you can play, so you do not need to be always on). That should just about cover it. If you link your Paradox account to your Steam account you don't need to bother with keys. What you buy will appear in your Steam launcher. You can then activate the new products via your Paradox account. There is currently a sale on Stellaris stuff bought directly from Paradox, but no sale on Steam. I was about to ask 'is this compatible with a Steam installation' but then realized that buying from Paradox just means that they send you a steam key (and more of the money you spend goes to Paradox themselves).
Time to get me some plantoids.

While I'm asking questions, anyone know why the sales are sometimes only on the Paradox site and not on Steam? Is it to encourage people to hang out on the forums or visit the web site? There is currently a sale on Stellaris stuff bought directly from Paradox, but no sale on Steam.
