Bavaria 1525-1549

In 1525 the political situation for Bavaria looked good. It had decent to good relations with almost all its neighbours. There were some problems with the Swiss, but that was all. After a short war that problem was settled and Bavaria had gained eastern Helvetia. After the Brandenburgians had fought the Polish a grand German alliance was established.

The economical situation was not that good. The few Bavarian merchants in the Cots around Europe were almost all kicked out in the 1530s and early 1540s. This made them unhappy, causing the trading practices in Bavaria to get behind their neighbours. And the unhappiness of the merchants influenced the peasants who also became unhappy and revolted a few times in this period.
Duke Wilhelm had initially concentrated on attemtps to convert the heretics in southern Bavaria (only to be confronted with a new heresy in the former Swiss territory) and fortfying the capitol, but now he decided Bavaria's economy needed to get a boost. So to stimulate the wine-making in Baden and the beer-brewing in the rest of Bavaria several refineries or breweries were planned. For years Wilhelm IV's reign was marked by low expenses as he tried to get enough money together for this plan. Finally in 1747 the construction of two refineries was started.

The Duke soon realised that construction of a third one would be even better. But the third one would become more expensive if all the expert refinery-builders would have left the country after finishing the first two. So the DUke started to everything he could to amass even more money. Still he could not get the money fast enough, but the new Archduke, Karl, was a far friendlier ruler than the infamous Maximilian. After getting a loan from him the construction of a third refinery was started.

At the start of 1749 the Bavarian economy is starting to look good. Three refineries will soon be finished, so the unhappy merchants and peasants could be enjoying Bavarian beer (and wine) instead of rising in revolt and doing all kinds of other nasty stuff. So hopefully they won't be unhappy anymore. :)

Tales of the Sultan

The Great Suleyman, Allah protect him did much in the early part of his reign. For he had a dream. The complete unification of Sub Saharan Africa under Ottoman rule and the conversion of the Persians. And so this was made manifest, the Sultans armies marched on persia, crushing them rutherlessly and bringing them into the true faith of Sunni Islam. He then sent his armies into Africa, conquering as he went, until he broke the power of Songhai and claimed their greatest cities for his own, as a prelude to the complete conquest of the area.

The Sultan was also not idea with the governance of his Empire, Teachers walked along the land and a great many people saw the light and converted to the one true faith. Defenses were built in Hungary to make any invade bleed greatly if the most Serene armies of the Sultan should be driven back, though this is doubtful, for no one nation save China can match the numbers that the Sultan can bring to bare. And to cap it all off, the Sultan brought the Polish King, whom alone amongst Christian Nations had treated the Sultan with the respect he was due into his alliance for Mutal Defence

Russia AAR 1525-1549

Consolidation

Ivan had troubles. A horrible incident in syberia got many russians killed and even worse costed him a lot of gold. In the mean time the Polish devils were trying to convert poor orthodox. Priorities had to be set, Poland had to be punished for its lack of respect for our religion. But alas, due to supply problems the war started two years later than expected with the potential ally Brandenburg as a no show.

ivan_terrible.jpg

A long and bloody war was the result. Innitial Russian succes were countered in the winter and due to lack of resources the offensive switched to the Polish side in one year even. They marched for moscow but were defeated there by a glorious yet unnamed general, and kicked out of russia for good. With this victory some succeses were made in border provinces but the big succes was a Poland in revolt. Unfortunatly the Sultan in contrast of earlier promises wasnt as neutral as he claimed and kept killing defenseless orthodox that stood up against the polish regime. In the mean time the russian army was so far streached that Astrakhan declaired indipendance! Now finally Brandenburg joined the war and hopes were Poland would soon be on its knees. But instead the Sultan started a treat campaign of "getting involved" and Brandenburg soldiers were clearly no match for the Polish veterans who had hardened at the russian front.

This resulted in a "victorious" peace with a bitter taste. Russia gained 4 of its own cultured provs that it had already been offered by poland at the start of the war. Its ally gained for its trouble one province. The rest of the orthodox had to be left at their faith.

Sad years for Russia

Some great things has happend to our glorious nation recently. God spoke to us, he wisely told us what to do. It was said that protostantism must be spread throughout eastern Europe, and it must be protected against the Orthodox scum. However god wish for peace, therefore it was necessary to
try and negotiate with this lost people.

It was a dead end, you cant negotiate with heathen savages. Even God failed to see this. Perhaps it's more wise to not negotiate with Lucifers servents?

Shortly after, this "people" attacked us while we served god and honored his requests and thus focused all our recourses on this. They prefered a bloody war over something that we earlier offered for free. It was now our duty to protect Gods servents from being slaughted by any savages. With gods help we managed to hinder any serius lost. The previus offered land was given to the heathens, all part of Gods plan.

However, the Brandenburgian backstab was a serius blow. They broke all understandings that we had and attacked us when the only thing we did was to serve god and protect our faith from being overrunned by savages.
We need to seek advice from god on how to solve this issue.

Zugzwang in Germany (1549 - 1575)

It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that we can state & safely tell you that god is in fact a german. Looking back through the vague mists of the past decades it becomes most clear that while god might have spoken to the Poles he never felt at home in their strange and savage country. For the Poles lacked amongst other vital asetts like chivalry, gallantry and decency,
one most holy ingredient : Delicious Beer.

God frowned contemptously at the sick & sad brew the Poles offered him and instead went to the bustling metropolis of Berlin, where the Beer was chilled and the women hot.

The Poles, unable to deal with this obvious defeat in the style-war choose to engage in a real war and cowardly attacked Brandenburg while we were partying. Though dazed & drunk the Brandenburgians, aided by the noble Bavarians and decent Rhineans mustered a brave and valiant defense even against overwhelming odds and superior polish weaponry (CRT).

As the war raged on, to and fro, repeated polish attempts to seize and occupy Berlin failed completely and several polish armies, led by Tarnowsky, were defeated and / or massacred in the process. In the end Brandenburg agreed to cede back "Liegnitz" as we needed time to annex our vassals and generaly grow in strength.

Later on we were forced to step in and help our german brothers in Bremen & Hamburg as Denmark was disintegrating and bloody chaos as a consequence of this reigned supreme.

What will happen in the future is to be seen. Brandenburg could soon be engaged in a "Zugzwang". Then again after all these bloody quagmires of the past we really desire peace. We want to build many breweries in order to produce and export our most wondrous beer!

Enjoy!

Portugal 1549 - 1575

Years of war against the frogeaters to the north had pressed the people of Portugal, and our newly added colonies in India and China was unhappy.

So when France offered a wp, the king thought it best to agree, and send his fleet and army east to deal with the uprisings.

After long fights in South Africa, we came to late to India, where the nation of Mysore broke free, only to become our vassels shortly after. With our army now in India, plans were made for further advances, when Vijayanager decides to attack our vassel, giving us a legitimate claim for more Vijayanager provinses, which was soon after added to the empire.

In China a new CoT spawned next to our provinses, and the king now looks across the border with longing for these riches. Soon they will be ours.

Bavaria (1549 - 1575)

Expansion options were limited, the aim of Bavaria in this session was to wait for opportunities to expand. Also we tried to protect Brandenburg from Poland, but due to Polands lead in land tech, battles were very costly and Brandenburg had to give Liegnitz to Poland.
A treaty with Doge Maciejus was about to grant us a port in Italy, but the abdication of the Doge forced Bavaria to get out of the war with owning a non-port province instead.
Subsequently, negotiations with the new Doge of Venice failed, and Romagna could not be switched to a decent piece of coastal property. So instead, Bavaria once more declared war on the Pope. This time taking Marche.
Venice doesn't apparently like Bavarian presence in Italy, so tensions are brewing. But nobody can deny Bavaria her colonial destiny!

Tales of the Sultan

The Years had gone past and the Sultan had grown worried about the State of the Nation. His people, while the strongest power in the world, could lag behind if steps were not made to insure the Empire had a sytrong economical bases by which to maintain her vast Empire and people. So the resources of the nation where switched to Infrastructual and trade related works, improving the road systems and increasing the powers of the Central Government, appointing governors across the provinces, with improved powers to better deal with local issues, while pushing forth the Sultans views and commands.

The Sultan threw his support behind the Polish Kingdom at this time, the Poles having not betrayed the Sultan, the Sultan decided to give them aid, making sure the Austrian did not interfere in Poland reclamation of her territory taken by Brandenburg. Yet the Sultan is wise and knows that the Poles cannot have all they want, lest they turn their Eye on Constantinople and the Sultans are forced to pluck it out.

Palatinat AAR 1549-1575
blazono_pal.jpg

Palatinat's economic depression era (1492-1545) is now only taking space on history books. Palatinat's economical and martial power is growing from time to time. And other german minors are following the same path. However, since german minors are growing, poland's attack on brandenburg hurt our vision. And huge amount of casualities shown that holy german empire is not invincible to our enemies. But day will come and we will take our revenge and crush our enemies.. We are approaching the year of destruction.. League of Nations..

Palatinat will never forget the Berlin War..

AAR Russia 1575-1602

When I took over the reigns as sub for this session I found RUS at LT14, infra 3 and trade 2. Presently investing in infra. Monthly income of 81d.

I was approached by the honorable Poles who suggested a NAP while certain other nations suggested a more agressive stance.

After due consideration I decided that a complete reversal of politics was in order.

I forbid trade in Russian COTs after which Fredrik responded: Russia trading, who heard about that?

Therefore a NAP was signed with Poland for the session. Minting 100% for 4 years then building 4 refineries and then going for trade 3 which was reached after some 15 years from start, in 1593 I think. Then stab was -1 and we invested in stab for some years to get up to +2 (a DP slider move was made during that time).

Two out of three provinces with good conversion success chance has been converted. The 3rd is on its way. No other 20% chance conversions has been made.

The task of diploannexing Crimea was not done. At start they owned 3 muslim provinces with mongol culture. Instead some money was sent to them for conversion. They succeded in converting one so far. I instead went to Centra 8 so that you will be allowed to keep the vassal.

The COT in Samarkand was available and was duly annexed for -2 stab and 5-6 BB points.

We got a COT in Tchumkan as well (spelled Chumkan in this scenario) after I sent a few more settlers to that province.

This means Russia now owns 4 COTs, Moskwa, Astrakhan, Samarkand and Chumkan. Monopoly has been reached in all of them for a total of 11.6 merchants per year. It may be advisable to go 2 steps to free trade.

Centralisation was increased +3, Aristo -2, quality +1

Rejected the Constantinople event of course.

Built some fortresses in Siberia. Colonised all I got although we only get 2 per year now at the end after DP slider moves.

Ended at monthly income 163. Just about exactly 100% more than at the start. At the end you earn, before the percentages are applied, more money from trade than from either production or taxes.

Now times of trouble ahead Seen, good luck :)

------------

Reward for being on time: deflation. And then an AAR Reward. Both to Spain according to agreement!

Poor Seen, does he not get the rewards?

AAR of Portugal 1575 - 1602

A long reign of peace and prosperity for the Kingdom of Portugal, ended in the year of our Lord 1575, when we felt a need to attack the nation of Pegu, who had annexed some minor provinse out in Asia.

China quickly followed Pegu in the war against us, which was all part of the greater plan. 50.000 troops marched into China, among the provinses sieged the wealty provinse of Guangzhou containing a tradecenter.

War was going well but Don Aladar was otherwise occupied when a Chinese diplomat arrived with a peaceoffer, for Guangzhou, Hong Kong and some other backward Thai provinse, and not really seing what was on the paper peace was signed.

We now hired a lot of coinmakers, since our treasury was low and we wanted to build more fleet to protect our holdings and manus to increase of tradeincome (thou already high).

In the meanwhile we converted the muslims in North Africa, and desides that Morocco needed the protection of Portugal, since Denmark had again launch a crusade againts them. Swiftly all provinses very taken and Morocco became vassels of Portugal and signed WP with Denmark.

Our holdings in Brazil are being furhter expanded as we write, and efforts will be increased now that the China campaign is settled.

A minor war is currently being fought with our Iberian brothers, as we grew tired of being vassels of Filipe I. Some provinses in the south was lost, but will now be retaken, and Felipe II now rules Portugal and Felipe III Spain. Friendly relations will again be initiated.

Bavaria 1575-1602

Bavaria started the session having quarrels with Venice over the Italian provinces, and wanting to expand into the Palatinate. Initial talks had promised good overall support from neighbouring nations, so we were feeling confident.

The reasons for taking on Pfalz were grim, perhaps unjust even. But it was realpolitik. The Palatinate had not been able to provide a good armed force, was constantly fielding a too small army, and during the Polish conflict the coordination had been very difficult. It had become clear that we could not count on effective help from Pfalz, rather that they would have to be defended from France.

While Bavaria could have easily defeated the Palatinate alone, it was clear that Austria and Brandenburg wanted some provinces too. War was declared and the Palatinate was split quickly between the three powers.

My respect goes for III.Selim for taking the annexation like a champ. Not many players would keep their cool and behave in such civilised way in those circumstances.

Alas, not all powers were happy with the increase of Bavarian power. After the annexation, France quickly declared war on Bavaria, and took Trier and Pfalz from us, then along with Poland Koln from Brandenburg. Austria and Spain stood still and did not offer any help in this war, where Bavaria and Brandenburg were defeated by two continental superpowers.

The Austrian treachery hurt us more than the French attack. We lost two provinces, a friend and an ally. So something else had to be done. Brandenburg and Bavaria now saw that the only power in Europe they could trust, was The Most Benevolent Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Along with their new friend, a revenge plan was quickly drawn up and war was declared.

Austria was saved from our revenge only by selling Lowlands provinces to France, and once again France invaded Bavaria, with Poland sending troops to defend Austria and invade Brandenburg. Bavaria fought valiantly, but with CRT, manpower, income and leader disadvantage, we had to finally give in to french stabhits (which were, humiliatingly, for 50d). Once again Spain and England stood still, letting France act without impunity. Also, Russia didn't use the situation to their advantage, and Poland was free to intervene in the war too.

Betrayed, deceived and beaten from many directions, Bavaria searched for friends in new directions. We sold the provinces in Italy to Venice in exchange for Ionia and an undisclosed sum of money. Venice quickly became a trusted and most reasonable friend of ours.

With the help of an explorer, we sailed down the coast of Africa, and sent a small army to Kanu, where the bloodthirsty savages were exterminated, and a colony was established! Prestige and Glory for Bavaria!

The Netherlands 1575 -1602

The Dutch nation was born on 2 jan of 1575, We first looked at the world map and saw that there was alrdy quite a lot of colonized area's. So we decided to first trade a bit that went quite smooth because there were so much open spaces rdy to be taken by the Dutch which we were suprised by that so much open spaces were left most of them in the colonial COTS. Then we explored explored and explored and decided our major colonizing area's.

We united The netherlands with Brabant and Flanders that was quite nice addition to our little country and then we could start to colonize.

Our MI is now on 130d this is excepted to grow much more in one year trade 5 will be reached our teching is going quite well. The 7% free inflation we got with the 2 event -2% inf and -5% was also a nice gift.

Now The World is rdy for a lot of orange colouring :p

Struggling on...Brandenburg (1575-1602)

In 1575 it was decided by the most valiant electors in Bavaria & Brandenburg that The Palatinate would have to be occupied in order to secure our border with France. The Palatinate, though being a loyal ally & noble chap, had not been able to help in the past wars in any significant way. Undermanned and uncommited it felt more and more like a liabilty, needing to be defended against the strong France, than an ally & asset. Hence this operation was implemented.
Soon afterwards things became grim for Brandenburg, however. France & Poland attacked, the vile Archduke dishonoured himself and betrayed our alliance and the rest of europe stood quietly by. With Henrie IV. smashing into Bavaria and the usual hordes of Poles attacking from the east things soon went from grim to critical. Though the cooperation between Bavaria & Brandenburg worked remarkably well in the west, several french offensives being stopped and Henrie IV. and his forces thrown back over the Rhine, eventualy their sheer numbers commanded our defeat....sadly.
Bavaria surrendered Pfalz & Trier to France, while Brandenburg also surrendered Cologne to France and the goldmine of Sudety to Poland.
Vowing to have our revenge we then approached the most honourable Sultan and concluded secret talks with him which eventualy led to him joining our just alliance. Our target was of course Austria. After what it had done it could not be permitted to remain intact, destabilizing the Holy Roman Empire and bringing gloom to it´s peoples through it´s deceit.
Alas, Europe abandoned us again. France and Poland signed an alliance with Austria and hence.....intervened in this war. The other powers continued to sit idly by. So France triumphed again. We could do naught but observe this with interest...

What will happen next will have to be seen. We for our parts severly hope that certain powers will finaly wake from their slumber and do something for the balance of power.....ere it be too late.

Tales of the Sultan

The most Noble and Serne Sultan and Caliph was a busy chappy during this period of European History. The drive towards a stronger financial base progressed swimingly, with new techniques achieved in trading and the internal infrasturctire of the Empire, so that our people were richer then ever before, though the Traders of Portugal overtook is in wealth.

The Sultan concluded a deal with the Doge of Venice where by he aquired the Venetians Holdings in the Agean hence securing the passage to Istanbul by sea.

As for Austria, the Sultan, moved by the plight of the Electors of Bavaria and Brandenburg, sent forth his armies and fort with the Archduke and alas with his dear friend, the Polish King. And the Sultan learned many lessons in this war, namely that his armies sucked and so a vigourous programme is being initiated whereby the Sultan's Armies will be completely focused.

AAR of Portugal 1602 - 1625

At first the Don slept for many years, doing nothing but mint a little and research in Trade tech. Then the Don woke and saw that much had to be done to stay the most rich country in the world.

New settlements in Brazil were being colonised and traders where sent around the world to trade our spises from India.

Even more coins were made to pay for our many new manus, which were mainly placed in our homeprovinses, to increase income, tech and population even more.

Then came a new war against France when our allies the spanish asked our aid against the frogeaters in the north. Despite having inferior forces to the french, we sent a good deal of portugeuse to the front to aid our allies. Then Venice joined the allies and even Brandenburg attacked the French. In the end a white peace was agreed, and we went back to building our colonies in Brazil.

Rumers have reached us that the men on the isle in the north are much more advanced in trade and infrastucture than us, which the king does not find pleasing at all.

Spain 1602 - 1625

Spain, the land of the conquistadors. It was over a century ago that Cristóbal Colón had landed in the Americas.

Large amounts of gold, silver and other valuable metals and minerals have since found their way to Spanish coffers. Vast expanses of land have been discovered, open for colonisation and exploitation by enterprising Spaniards.

Unfortunately, be that through a lack of vision, perseverance, means or otherwise, over a hundred years later, most of these lands are still open.

The reliance on gold and silver to fuel the economy has not left the economy unaffected, slowly but surely, a decline becomes visible, bankruptcies are inevitable, leaving the economy even more reliant on that same gold that caused the decline.

It is said that Spain missed her chance, failed to rise to greatness when it had her chance. Look at Portugal, for a long time the minor kingdom on the Iberian peninsula, but now overshadowing Spain in most ways. And now other nations are poised to rise to greatness, leaving Spain a second or third rate power, both in the Old World, and in the New.

Yet there are some who still hope it can be otherwise, who yet hope to make use of the discoveries of the last century. To turn back the economic decline, and to make Spain a strong nation afterall. It will take time, persistance, and some luck, but Spain may yet become a strong nation, even though her best chance, her only chance, to become truly dominant has passed.

Tales of the Sultan

Our dear and beloved Sultan was, in this period a man on a mission. That mission you ask? Why to survive the revolts of his Beys and to help the Emperor of China. For the Sultan had a notion that it might be fun to send the Emperor vast sums of money in order for him to increase the powers of his armies and put down the revolts that were plaguing his nation, somethign the Sultan knew well about. And when the Emperor of China believed that the time had come to liberate the People of Shanghai, and easily reclaimed the City, the Sultan, aghast at the English crown for not returning the city, shut the English merchants out of the Empire until such time as peace was agreed between the two peoples.

Various wars broke out, as they do in Europe, inculding a unfortunate misunderstanding with Austria which was cleared up almost as soon as it happened, but in Europe, on the whole, the Sultan was a quiet man.

The Netherlands

We did the same as last session doubled our trade income and started colonizing in North South America and Australia. we vassalized pegu and malacca maybe for diplo-annexing them later if possible. the golden age is on it's way now with all the very good admiral's. But with the absence of the perm in england. it's difficult for the dutch to see what there options are of expansion. We find it very amusing to see China take back it's COT. we are having friendly relations with everyone in europe so that's nice. What will the future bring?
