In my current game as France (1580), I'm in the middle of a huge civil war, which sprung out of the ashes of the Franco-Spanish War, in which I fought a bloody and bankrupting war with the might of the Habsburg Empire and after annihilating most of France, I demanded the entire Spanish Netherlands, French Comte and the province opposite Navarra in order to halt the war.

So France is now very large (for 1580, anyway), is bankrupt, has been drawn into about half a dozen wars alongside the Dutch Netherlands and well... it's not looking good :D

All this happened, of course, because I converted to Protestantism in 1569 and the south is mainly loyal. The north, however (including Paris) is still Catholic :(
