A number of religions and heresies in the game can be identified as part of the broad group of ideas identified as Gnosticism.

Back when Societies were first teased, there was a symbol suggesting a Gnostic society. It never came to pass. I suggest bringing back the concept.

First, I suggest a new property for certain religions. In the religion file it would be:

gnostic = yes

Religions marked as Gnostic would have reduced penalty for different religion/heresy between them. I would suggest a fixed -10 "Different Gnostic views" (unless you also have Sympathy for Gnostic religions in which case it would be 0).

I would also suggest a new trait

Sympathy for Gnostic religions, which would work like Sympathy for X for all Gnostic religions.

Religions marked as Gnostic would be:

Manichaeism, Paulician, Bogomilist, Cathar (please include any that I may have forgotten)

The Gnostic religions would all have access to a shared Monastic Society: Gnostic Ascetics

It would work pretty much like any other Monastic Society, aside from the fact that it would have members from multiple different religions. As a unique action, I would suggest giving you an option to study gnostic texts, which could lead to becoming Erudite, Scholar or Mystic or lose Dull or Improve your education trait.

Edit: as a side note, this would help solve the problem of "heresies do not have enough distinguishing features" somewhat for 4! heresies all at once.

As a side note, I think that all gnostic religions should have +5 relations with Celibate, Chaste and -5 with Master Seducer, Master Seductress, Lustful and Hedonist.

The trait effects on Devotion and Member Score in the Monastic Order could be:

+3 +30%
+3 +30%
+1 +10%
+2 +20%
+1 +10%
+1 +10%
+2 +20%
+3 +30%

+0 +00%
+3 +30%
+1 +10%
+0 +0%
+2 +20%

+3 +30%

I would also suggest replacing Convert Country with Spread Gnostic Teachings. The difference being that the province could convert to your religion or to a Gnostic heresy of its group. As this would be less reliable, I would suggest also making it cheaper.

How about "dissimilation mechanic"?
It would work as such, that with all temple-holders and counts (and above) of the given denomination could vote upon dissimilating as a particular religion.Once agreed, only other Gnostics and the religion you are dissimilaing as will truly know who you are. Therefore, it does makes sense for Druze to dissimulate as Shia, but not as Sunnis. Similarly, Cathars wouldnt help themselves hiding as Catholix.
