The pool is always there. There's almost never a delay in the appearance of a new game.

What used to be "Hey, I'll do the next one!" "Aww, really? Cool." is now comparable to getting a sack of potatoes in Warsaw in 1985.

It makes it essentially impossible for me to GM, as I generally only know if I'll be free a week out from when I'd run a game. Although I've only been free to GM a couple of times since Magical Mystery Tour, so it hasn't really made much difference...

Ironhead was allowed to GM the previous Big, skipping the entire waiting line, simply because we knew it was then or possibly never.

So there's a precedent already.

Arkasas decided he doesn't care anymore after signing up and instead of subbing out decided to vote and kill himself as a villager.

Meh.
glare_zpsoreperbj.gif
I'm disappointed.

Then again to go a bit against this mob mentality, I've seen plenty of players vote themselves. Surprisingly often it even works in saving them. So I wouldn't treat this as a once-in-a-lifetime thing as it's clearly been done before. But yeah, total lack of interest should mean subbing out.

I see no reason to formal ban from GMing. Arkasas has been doing that with enthusiasm and I expect the same from his next game. And if lackluster effort as player would result in ban from GMing there would be quite many players on the ban list already. Players can make their choices individually whether to play or not in a game.

I think that this list is just a nuisance that creates a situation wherein players who *might* be able to GM in several weeks are forced to sign up "just in case" they are able to GM. In order to hasten the death of this terrible system, I suggest that we all ignore the list and return to the previous system wherein GM spots were reserved not weeks, but days, in advance.

How did that work? I see where you're coming from, as it is hard to tell whether we will be free weeks or months in advance.

Furthermore, it requires people to keep an eye out on the current game to have a shot at GMing the next.

Plus, what'll happen is that two people both want to GM (A and B).
Community chooses A and tells B he'll have the next game.
After next game, two more people (C and D) want to GM because they didn't read the previous thread. They're told B goes next but they're both on the list for the game after that.

Oh look, we have a waiting list, again.

The ONLY problem we're having right now is that too many people want to GM. If there were only 3 people on the list, no-one would complain, but since we've got 10 names on it...

So maybe (I think I said it earlier) we should have the next 3 games fixed and the rest just as a pool of interested people. Game starts and all GMs in the pool can put themselves forward for what is now the third empty slot.

So what's the problem again with the GM list? One player played suboptimally and people want to exclude him from GMing and that leads again to this discussion?

The ONLY problem we're having right now is that too many people want to GM. If there were only 3 people on the list, no-one would complain, but since we've got 10 names on it...

This. Plus people who claim they are too stupid to understand how the list works even though it's been explained ad nauseam already. At least first come first serve is equal for all without any favouritism.

So maybe (I think I said it earlier) we should have the next 3 games fixed and the rest just as a pool of interested people. Game starts and all GMs in the pool can put themselves forward for what is now the third empty slot.

Something like that could work, too. Or people who aren't that interested in GMing could stop making reservations just for the sake of it as it has lead to less than stellar games and/or GMs getting skipped when their turn comes but they aren't interested to GM any more or whatnot.

It's just the long lists that are disturbing. If we keep the 35-40 players and 7-10 days signup period, then it will be around this time next year that K-59 will be GM-ing.

Strange though how everyone wants to GM. We can't really start 2 games cause we are not enough for the signups to be worth it.

Yes.

GM looked less appealing when it was a matter of starting almost immediately. The list stirs some desire in the hearts of men to be on the list.

Or MAYBE, we go back to the system we *know* works.

Well, does it though? By your own admission, you GM'ed every second game at some point. Clearly, there is an interest in GMing, so isn't a list more fair?

The list as it is now is fine, isn't it? If someone can't GM when it's their turn, they can just ask to be skipped over, or swap with someone further down the line. What's the issue?

Well, does it though? By your own admission, you GM'ed every second game at some point. Clearly, there is an interest in GMing, so isn't a list more fair?

No. I always gave people time to put up their games if they wanted to before I did mine. People now, as has been said, are just signing up for the list and hosting when their turn comes without really wanting to. It's not a case of "Do I like GMing or not?". It's a case of "Do I feel like GMing *now*?" Even the most dedicated GMs don't always feel like hosting. And there's no way on earth someone can tell if they'll want to host months in advance. You can tell, *maybe* but not always, when you'll have time to GM. But you can never know when you will actually want to.

The list as it is now is fine, isn't it? If someone can't GM when it's their turn, they can just ask to be skipped over, or swap with someone further down the line. What's the issue?

No. It's too convoluted and time-consuming. I haven't signed up for a lite yet because I can't guess if I'll want(or be able to) host a game 2 months from now(which is about when my turn will come if I reserve now). People skipping turns and swapping just means more wasted time. It means your turn may come earlier than you'd expected. It means you may host even though you don't want to just to not have your turn skipped.

A list for Big might make sense, but I'd prefer to see it only semi-official at most.

As it is, I have been in line for about 5 weeks, and it will probably be another 12-20 days more. I'd have been available in all that, but I'm not as certain for the time frame at which I think it safe assume the queue finally pushes me forward.

Good idea. Although I don't think a 3 name list would be needed in that case. We just have a pool of potential GMs and once the new game started we would start on the long and difficult task of figuring out who goes next. That way we can pick out someone who wants to GM and have them ready to start a new game as soon as the previous one ends but also give people a fair chance to put their name forward.

How exactly is this system different from not having a list at all? Except that, of course, you have to add your name to a list to be among the "potential GMs" instead of every player being there.

You know what? Screw this list. I'm hosting the next Lite. What are you gonna do about it? Sue me?

How exactly is this system different from not having a list at all? Except that, of course, you have to add your name to a list to be among the "potential GMs" instead of every player being there.

You know what? Screw this list. I'm hosting the next Lite. What are you gonna do about it? Sue me?
What exactly is hard to understand about if you have more people than spots, then having a day or two for first come takes is not a fair distribution system?
