Background
The Wittelsbach dynasty ruled the German territories of Bavaria from 1180 to 1918 and the Electorate of the Palatinate from 1214 until 1805. 1815 saw the latter territory be partly incorporated as Rhine Palatinate into Bavaria, which Napoleon elevated to a kingdom in 1806. On Duke Otto II's death in 1253, his sons divided the Wittelsbach possessions between them: One Duke ruled Lower Bavaria while the other Duke ruled Upper Bavaria and Count Palatine of the Rhine.

Chapter 1 Ansbach And Beyond

Chapter One: Ansbach and Beyond

The door to the study was heavily guarded by Duke Ludwig IV's personal guards. Security was very tight as the Duke was meeting with his advisers.

"Gentlemen" A hush grew throughout the study. "I will not stand by and let my my future son live in a land of despair. He will rule over a long where others will want to live and serve"

"I agree my Duke"
"Which backwards country will we take?"
"Ansbach! I will drive the Hohenzollerns out of our lands"
"Ansbach it is"

The troops were moving under cover of darkness towards the border.
"I can't wait to see some action"
"Me, too"
"I hope we are victorious"
"God is on our side. We shall prevail"

The War was a short affair. The Armies of Bavaria and her two allies, Augsburg and Wurzburg were victorious

"Herr Duke. Ansbach is ours"
"Send my personal advisers into the land. They must be integrated into our way of like"

"My Duke. We have word one of our rivals has an army bigger than ours"
"What stupid little puny backwards land dares to up stage me?"
"I know my Duke. I shall give the orders at once"

Chapter 2

Chapter 2
The Beginning of Somebody's End

The next few years were quiet for Duke Ludwig of Bavaria. Solid alliances and a good sized army ensured there was a time of peace within the lands. Sure some alliances came and went,
but his leadership was the key to a very strong alliance with Lorriane, Baden, and Messian. Then one day out of the blue, an ally call for help. Ludwig meet with his generals and decided
to aide Lorriane. Word came back latter that evening. Bavaria would lead the Alliance into battle.

Two important battles were the deciding factors in this short war.

Duke Ludwig IV decided enough was enough and set a meeting with all the parties to propose a peace treaty. Bavaria did take Ulm as a vassal for their part in the war.

After the war, Ludwig set about incorporating Ulm into the lands.

Soon there was peace again in the land of the Rhine Valley. One day a visiting Italian asked an audience with the Duke.
"What is your decision, Herr Duke?"
"You will have your support for this new school"
"God, Bless"

On the horizon, dark clouds could be seen many miles away. For three day and three night he rode and he rode. For he brought news, bad news.
A rivalry war was on. And Bavaria was destined to help her ally, Lorriane

Bavaria did not make out with this war. But Ludwig smiled as he turned in for the night. A plan was forming in the back of his head. First Augsburg must be his vassal.

The door burst open as the courier stumbled in breathless in front of the Duke.
"My Duke, I bring word from Tirol"
"Hope, not too bad of news"

Chapter 3 Wuzburg Beer and Weenie Festival

Wurzburg Beer and Weenie Festival

Bavarian researchers have been hard at work finding new ways to aid the army of Duke Ludwig

Ludwig was in his study meeting with his defense cabinet
"The time has come for us to save those souls that need saving"
Ludwig pointed to a spot on the map just North of Bavaria
"For the past several months, our spies have been busy fabricating a claim in the province of Bamburg"
"The time has come for us to act"
"First we must confer with our allies"

"Very well"
"Send forth the official documents"
"And let the festivities begin"

General Johann Dulac was meeting with his staff.
"Squad One will hit here"
"Squad Two here"
"Squad Three there"
"Squad Four will tighten the noose"

Several months went by. Dulac's men kept the pressure up and then one day in the Fall.
The men were cheering as the siege had been successful. After a long siege, victory was in sight

"Give orders to move on the capital"
"Yes, Herr Duke"
"Sire, I have received theses documents"
"It seems that Frankfurt and Saxony don't want to play anymore"

Then a week later the official word had reached Duke Ludwig

The times were prosperous after the War, Bamburg was undergoing integration into the land of Bavaria.
Then events went from good to really really bad. It was noted in the History Books of the mid to late
1600's (1682) that the rumors had been true to some extent. A Comet was sighted, some say Halley's
Comet to be exact, but it was never proven. But anyways that meant a very bad omen.

The priest meet everyday with Duke Ludwig and Princess Maria. Then one day a miracle. An heir was found. Rejoice!

The time has come to test Bavarian might out

The courier was out of breath from his long ride from Wurttemberg. He presented the Duke with an official document.

"Can we fight two wars at once?"
"We better hope we can"

Bavaria gets to test out the new Swiss Halberd Infantry

In the end the Bavarian army done it's best.

Both leader shook hands and turned to the press. "Peace in our time"

Time for another rivalry war and a short end

A minor point to the East. Something Duke Ludwig will keep in mind

"General. What do you think of our army?"
"They are the best"
"Do you think they can hold up to the others?"
"They will go toe to toe with the likes of France, Austria, England, and Bohemia"
"We will see how they fight"
"Send our best spy to Wurzburg"

"Herr Duke. Your spy has reported back"
"Very well"
"We shall put the nail in the coffin"

Intermission

The ride was long and arduous. Duke Ludwig was looking forward to this great occasion. The King was everything she wanted in a man, for his cousin
Traudl was in love and Ludwig was tasked with the formal introductions. The Duke was making his fifth trek. He wanted to forge an alliance to help him
when the tame was right. But first he needed Traudl's help. Not help in the true sense. But the Duke needed the matrimony bonds.

"I give you Duke Ludwig IV of Bavaria"
"May I offer you my humble castle"
"Thank, Mein Herr"
"What of the news you bring from your lands?"
"Traudl has given her approval for the Prince"
"May i wish you the best"
"Thank you, Herr Frederich"

"I give you my assurance for the better of our great nations"

Chapter 5 United We Stand

United We Stand

Our ally Meissen has called us to help in their war. Duke Ludwig is showcasing the might of the Bavarian army with her new Swiss Halberd infantry
The War was short and bloody. Maybe the time was right. Was this a sign of the times to come?

The war was a short affair. Some would say it was not a war but a conflict. Either way the Bavarian Army stood it's ground
Duke Ludwig did prove that he would reunited the lands under Bavarian rule with the House of Wittelsbach.

After the integration of Wurzburg Ludwig met with his cabinet.
"I think the time is right to strike"
"What are the ramifications? "
"How about we discuss the upside?"
"First we have Austria on our side"
"That is true. But we must err on the side of caution"
"If we start expanding like crazy, I am sure Austria will come knocking at our door"
"Who else could stat up to us?"
"The Swiss?
"Those pathetic excuse for a people"
"I remember us sending their army home with their tails between their legs"
"How about those French people?"
"What French people. I have not heard of any news of the French. Do they even exist?
"A myth perhaps?"

Time to start the integration

Word came from the far reaches of the lands. Terrifying news. Much death and suffering. When will it end! The people took to the Heavens for guidance.

Not all the news was dark. Bavarian scientists were hard a work. Perfecting the technology to aid the Duke in his quest for fame and glory.

First Duke Ludwig gave the orders to build a great palace.

"I will not be bullied by some two bit rinky dink sad excuse of a country"
"I agree, my Duke"
"But they have some allies"
"Pfft"
"Allies, do you call those puny countries allies?
"My Duke. I do agree that they have insulted us but I should err on the side of caution"
"Just who might come to their aid?"
"Saxony and Opole for sure. And maybe Carinthia and Mainz"
"What! Tthey have six farmers and a lame horse for an army?"
"Not quite that"
"Last time we counted they had maybe a few thousand men and very little cavalry"
"Send the word. I want to see what we can do with this coalition against us"

The conflict wore on for close to eight months
"I have seen enough"
"Anything you want to include in the peace terms?"
"The men fought well. Bring them home"

The priest came out of the bed chamber and shook his head.
"Herr Karl, I am so very sorry. We did all we could to save your father"
"I understand priest"
The new duke of Bavarian looked over to his wife, Lizbeth. We was weeping in her hands.
He then turned back to the priest and asked "What do i do now?"
"We pray"

Not long after the death of Ludwig IV, there was trouble brewing in the royal court.
"My Duke, I am sorry this is taking so long"
"Lizbeth, we should have an heir by now"
"I'm trying my hardest"
"Well that might not be good enough"

"We are in a sort of jam"
"How so?"
"There are rumblings since the revolt that your not capable of ruling Bavaria"
"Interesting. Send for the priest"
"Yes my Duke"

Not long after the coronation of Duke Karl I an ally came seeking Bavarian help in a conquest.
Karl thought it over and decided he needed to onor the alliance to save face in the eyes if his people.

The army preformed quite well in the conflict. Riding on years and years of tradition and battlefield excellence

One fine sunny day there was a knock on the Duke's study door
"Enter"
"My Duke, I give you Count Peter and Paul"
"What can I do for you?"
"Our noble house have come upon some hard times"
"Carry on"
"We seek help from you my Duke"
"What do I get in return?"
"Our continued support"

Chapter 7 The Kingdom of Bavaria

Chapter 7 The Kingdom of Bavaria

The trip was long and for once Karl Albrecht of Bavaria was to spend some quality time with his wife, Alice.
They had tried for many years to produce and heir to the Wittelsbach family. New of the impending coronation
of King was too much for the people of Bavaria. Festivals were running rampart in the lands. Karl's subjects
were rejoicing and the mood of the land was at an all time high never seen before. Then the news spread like
wildfire. An heir was finally born. He would be named Karl Theodor.

Not long after the return from the Pope. Sad news was revealed to the people of Bavaria

After the recovery of King Karl I, He was looking towards the future The army must be kept busy and strong.
He sent his top spy south into Tirol. They will pay for being a part of a coalition. He will crush them like a bug.
But the road was not always smooth.

Bavaria's ally Lorraine decided it needed some help against Luxembourg and company. The Bavarian army will
get some much needed target practice

The meeting was a very long affair. The cabinet was undertaking the task of the total integration of Augsburg
into the Kingdom. The discussion centered around the end and the impact within the HRE.

One fine day a note came from a land far away. What was the meaning. What would be the impact
Only time will tell.

Chapter 8 Trouble In The Realm

Chapter 8 Trouble In The Realm

With the job well done with the integration of Augsburg. The plans for Ulm will be
done sometime in the future when the neighborhood is more quiet

In the past the noble families have helped Bavaria out in tough situations.
Now the time has come for the families to request compensation for their efforts.

Luxembourg is at it again. Another Rivalry War! (And get stomped again :happy

Finally our other ally wants ur help.

One day while out riding in the woods in the back of the castle, King Karl Albrecht was
thrown from his horse he King hit his head and blacked out. One of the stable servant
saw what had happened and aid was ushered to the fallen ruler. A few week later Karl
was experiencing black outs and dizziness. Then one day he was in a meeting with his
advisers.

"I want you construct a platform here. Then build a rocket pointed straight up"
"A rocket?
"What the heck is a rocket?"
"You know, things that go straight up boom"
"Are you ok, my King?"
"I am perfectly fine. Don't touch me. Don't let the green men get me"

"We must do something?"
"Who shall we get to run the kingdom"
"How about his son Karl Theodor?
"Yes, he will do!"

With the crisis adverted. It is time to get down to business.

A jousting tournament was recently hosted and one person stood out among his peers

He will serve the army well. Hopefully for a very long time

Chapter 9 Playing The Field

The conflict was going according to plan. Carinthia, Hungary and company did
not stand a chance. King Karl decided to exit the festivities early as the people
were rumbling on the length.

The news in the realm was not all about the conflicts in the area The King and his
faithful wife, produced an heir.

"Send our top spy to Carinthia, i want Salzburg"
"Very well, my King"
"I see they finally made peace with Austria"
"As you can see why we must strike quickly"

Luxembourg thinks that three times around the block is the magic number

"Charge!!!"
The conflict was a short one.

With the integration of Salzburg......

The great Bavarian general dies We must plan for the future

"My king. Good news from the Emperor"

"We have been chosen to host the meetings at the Reichstag

Some tasks are at hand as the empires grows

Beware of taking Salzburg. Other Catholic countries will get missions to restore the Archbishopric but you probably knew about that already
I remember getting dowed by Castile in an Austria campaign for holding Salzburg.
