I don't like the way, how Global Trade is placed in the world. In my games it fired every time in Genoa, because it's such a damn rich end node.

I think, it would be far more interesting, if Global Trade would fire in one of the top 3 or 5 trade nodes in the world, where the richest nodes have a higher chance.

Seconded. Genoa Trade is pretty boring. I mean, it could theoretically spawn in Venice or Malacca, but it's too unlikely at the moment. Colonialism has an exciting factor to it when you're a RotW coloniser, since you can potentially retard Europe's technological development; it'd be nice to do the same with Global Trade.

Spawned in North Sea in my Hamburg game, which ironically wasn't even the richest node. That was my home node Lubeck.

I have played 2 RoM games and Lubeck got it once and second time missed it by half a ducat. The other institutions are all random, atleast one should stay as something you can be sure of getting if you fulfill the criteria.

That's not true. Currently, only Colonialism can be achieved in this way. Global Trade can be only achieved in certain nodes (although it's a little bit bugged) in Europe, because, even if you put everything you can into a certain node, you can't catch up fast enough outside of the continent, if the Europeans don't f*ck it up in their nodes. Renaissance? Europe. Printing Press? Europe. Enlightenment? Europe.

There's only 1 real random institution: Manufactories. I wish, there would be a chance to get 3 institutions outside of Europe (3 against 3). Global Trade would be the perfect choice. Currently, that's nearly impossible.

I'm pretty sure a human player in India could steal that one. Hell, the Ottomans could probably steal it as well if they have Egypt. England or France could certainly push it to English Channel.

To me, that feels like a pretty good mix of historical vs alt-history. At least until trade gets an overhaul like tech just got. :)

It's pretty easy to have Constantinople surpass Genoa by 1600 as the Ottomans if you take Trade Ideas, especially if you're going to heavily develop your provinces anyway for difficult-to-get institutions like colonialism.

My current game is at around 1580 and with my near-total control of Egypt, the Levant, and Iraq, along with a few trade outposts in India's centers of trade, and using my enormous wealth to invest in tons of manufactories, Constantinople is the dominant trade region by a comfortable margin, and well on it's way to getting even richer. And with me diverting more and more trade from the east to Constantinople, Genoa is actually getting poorer as time goes by.

I like the current system, with its lack of RNG. It also makes investing in Trade Ideas early on much more useful.

I've actually had this one show up in Asia even in hands off games.
Its more common for it to show up around the English Channel or even in Spain.
It's somewhat limited where it shows up exactly but it's not always the same place. In the end as this one grows anywhere you have centers of trade it's not as important where it shows up as some of the others. Soon enough it will be spreading from multiple points anyway. :)

Zanzibar would like to say hello. As would Constantinople. Venice and English Channel as well.

As lone as you're not playing MP, you could, with not too much difficultly, get global trade in those parts.

It's mostly a Eurocentric thing, granted, but fixing that involves reworking the whole trade system (all the end nodes are in Europe and there's only a couple of non-European nodes that can funnel trade as effectively).

Genoa was just the extreme example for me, because I had it 5 times in a row there since the patch. As player in Europe you can get it very easy. Try it in ROTW. That's pure pain. It can happen, but that's unlikely, because the circumstances for this situation are extreme.

I've actually had this one show up in Asia even in hands off games.

Yes, it spreads soon, but for RP purposes it would be great, if you could get it without extreme luck. In my game only Brazil was colonized from Portugal, because I snatched Colonialism. And "Global" Trade spawns in Genoa, where only the spice routes lead, which where in a downfall at this timeframe. If you read the description of the institution, that description is pure irony in this situation. Building an empire from Africa to India and China, with colonies in North and South America... and that's no global trade?

Well at least there are consolation prizes for global trade, as opposed to colonialism, where if you don't get the initial spawn you're screwed if you don't want to dev-force or invest into making a colonial nation.

That's just false. I've had it fire twice in Asia, first playing as the Ming and secondly playing as the Mughals. It's not at all difficult to get Global Trade to fire where you want it to so long as it's a reasonable node and not the North Sea/Balctic/other crappy nodes.

And "Global" Trade spawns in Genoa, where only the spice routes lead, which where in a downfall at this timeframe.

Genoa was a center of international finance and commerce still in the 18th century. It's certainly a candidate for global trade especially in an entirely alternate timeline.
In my hands off experience England and the Netherlands are more likely to get it though, but it will depend on the particular game.
And as I said I've seen it start in China despite all players being ai controlled...

Building an empire from Africa to India and China, with colonies in North and South America... and that's no global trade?

It is and that's why it's also likely growing in all those places globally. It grows and spreads from all centers of trade, markets and trade depots after all. It doesn't grow in natural harbors but as long as you're at positive stability those will turn into centers of trade too eventually.

I had it as Vijanagar, didn´t even try to get it since I thought it would be impossible, yet it triggered and I got it in Goa... Judging from TrinTragula, it´s pretty well balanced... I would however like an event for minor "center" of each institution... But that´s only because I dislike this games approach on global... I would like regional GP and institutions, so imagine the first in asia to get renaisance, yet he doesn´t even get a small modifier for the province?

It would be nice indeed for secondary methods of getting renaissance and printing press in ROTW. E.g. promote ticking printing press in provinces slowly with the drawback of increased stab cost or revolt risk.

BTW What is measured? Total trade value? Local trade value or retain trade value?
