Impressive, it looks like nothing can stop you now. What has your religious policy been, have tried to be historically accurate by being extremely catholic, or have you taken a more tolerant path?

I have chosen a balanced path. Because Spain has just a massive list of Casus Bellis, I have only lost stability points once (betraying my alliance with France once) and then it was only one point. The stability coupled with moderate tolerance results in no rebellions. When wars drag on, I have rebellions in the former Aztec and Incan areas. So, I keep lots of troops around. Rebellions in Aztec areas are harsh, so more troops there. Because of the small population spread over a wide area, I dont have to keep as many in Incan areas. Also, I havent acquired any Protestant or Orthodox provinces until my next new post of data (I have played about 20 years ahead of the posts, but I havent typed them up yet). So, for a long time, I kept Orthodox and Protestant tolerance at the bottom. (After all, who cares if England and Russia hate me. They already hate me for my empire)

I dont know how to post screenshots though. I know how to take them and I save every ten years, so I can get one. Just tell me how.

Response to Jezzman

One day I was lamenting the PAIN IN THE ASS it is to get a port in the Caribbean at the beginning of the game and so I loaded up the Thirty years war scenario and looked at the Atlantic ocean. I was going to see what was the shortest route over there and then follow it. What I found was that it is only two sea zones from the Azores to Newfoundland. So, I started going up first, and then going down the coast. I think that knowing which provinces will have ports and which wont before you play is a big help. I have a really good memory, so its not a big problem for me. Write it down or load up a scenario and check yourself. Place colonies so that you will create a port chain. For instance, in my game, ships could head out from Andalusia, port in Wabana, port in Carolina, port in Tortuga, and then scout around the area. Later, I set up a colony in Recife, Uruguay, Megallanes, Colquimbo, etc. etc. As naval tech improves, you need fewer ports. But in the beginning, the key is to scout a little and then return to port. I try to make sure an explorer loses no ships in any given trip. Unless, he is Columbus. Around the time you scout out the Caribbean and are preparing to round South America, the Grim Reaper set his sights on Columbus. So, I sent him from the Canary Islands to Michoagan. He never made it, of course, but he auto selected the quickest way over there and followed it until he died. Therefore, another key component to scouting effectively is to know which explorers die quickly (Columbus, Magellan, Saavedra Ceron) and which ones stay around (V. Pinzon, Solis, etc.). Send the dying ones on death journeys and use the stalwarts to scout locally. I hope that helps. If you didnt understand something or have another question though, feel free to ask. That is my favorite part about writing this AAR is the questions. It helps improve my game and yours.

Interval 16:
January 1st 1592 – December 31st 1601

Summary:
It is a good day to be a fighting Spaniard. Two massive wars were fought during this period. Spanish warriors fought on all sides of the globe against numerous fierce savages who stand in the way of the GLORY OF SPAIN!!!! Our righteous swords carried the day on all battlefields, east and west. But really folks, I beat the hell out of everyone this time. And it is about time too. All my planning and strategic positioning finally paid off. And boy was the pay off big.

It started out when I declared war on Nippon. Hessen, Lorraine, Tripoli, Portugal, and all of their allies, jealous of my opulence, declared war. They were unprepared for the foe they faced. My troops had technological advantage over everyone and numerical advantage over almost all of my opponents. After winning the first series of wars and restocking troops to England, Germany, and Japan; I began anew and wiped the floor with my opponents again. Looking at the troops graph shows my troop strength going through the roof during this period and everyone else going through the floor. My superior forces captured a massive THIRTY-FOUR provinces during this ten-year period by FORCE. In addition, I colonized during the course of the interval and accumulated nineteen new colonies or trading posts.

Interval 17:
January 1st 1602 – December 31st 1611

Note: During the big war that occurred last period, France somehow got a small army into the interior of North America. When they dishonored our alliance and later declared war, that little army burned a large number of trading posts over a large area. I tried to rebuild them, but lost track of new colonies during the heavy fighting of the war. Additionally, now that I am warring with great powers often, I am losing trading posts and burning some myself. So, I have decided to no longer create a list of new provinces or to list new colonies in the game record. I will, however, make statements when a large area (North America, Pacific Islands, Africa) becomes completely colonized by me. New provinces will actually be counted in my hundred year reports. Sorry for any inconvenience, but tracking all those colonies during multiple front wars is VERY HARD.

Summary:
During this period, I had to take moderate cash and troop losses in Europe in order to ensure victory in China. After a long and difficult war, I am in control of all Asian provinces (I don’t consider Persia, Astrakan, Sibir, Kazan, or Russia really “Asian”). I now hold India, China, Japan, the Pacific Islands, all of North Africa and about half of the rest of Africa, all of the coastal provinces in North and South America as well as most of the internal provinces. Additionally, I control a sizable portion of the Middle East, all of Britain except Ireland, Wessex, and Anglia, and a large portion of the HRE.

With China out of the way, I will be able to use my ships exclusively for troop transportation in Europe and possibly a few ships might transport troops into Africa, but that will be a miniscule resource loss. In a short time, I will be able to build Weapons Manufactories. This will really push my technological advantage to the max and by the time I am facing the larger central European powers I will have such a massive technology advantage that there will be few problems bigger than the Russian winter. Also, my control of China will now facilitate colonization of the Northeast coast of Asia and then I can begin marching (and colonizing) into Siberia. Russia has faced major difficulties expanding south and Kazan is actually larger today than it was at the beginning of the game; so I anticipate little resistance or problems colonizing Siberia.

The annexation of China marks the beginning of the end of Europe. I no longer have to divide my troops between four fronts (Asia, Middle East, Northern Europe, and the British Isles). Instead, the annexation of China and Scotland reduces the number of fronts to 2. My vastly superior forces can easily crush my opponents and I believe that I will never have to pay for peace again. I am simply in too advantageous a position to do that. However, rebuilding my troop strength in Europe (to put down rebellions and to fight the enemy) will take time and I am not sure I will start another big war next period, but rather wait until the following one when I am completely replenished. However, I might outdo myself. I have done so many times already. I never anticipated my speedy advance into the Pacific, my quick conquest of India, China, and Japan, or my dominance in the British Isles. Ireland is the only non-colonial property owned by England. Shortly, it will be mine. Tis a shame. Tis a shame.

Interval 19:
January 1st 1622 – December 31st 1631

Summary:
The war is over, thankfully, and despite its hardships I came out far ahead. I control 3/5ths of Ireland now, leaving 4 provinces in the British Isles I don’t own. (3 British, 1 French). I got the French out of Mecklemburg and grabbed Calais, so French presence in HRE is very weak. I control the bottom of Italy now as well. Lorraine is gone for good and the number of opponents I am facing in HRE is going down with each war. Also, I ANNEXED PERSIA. This massive annexation, combined with adding two Turkish provinces to link Persian conquests to Lebanon/Syria area, places me in a position to go after Aden and Oman in the next war.

The BIG advancement of this period was getting both Trade and Infrastructure technology up to level 10 and ending the long monetary drain of those two techs. I now make more money per month and spend more researching military technology. I now have so many troops that I will control all fronts in my next war and the only country I see taking a white peace with would be Poland-Lithuania (And only there because I don’t want to have a peninsula out into hell with no reinforcements).

1622:

2/4: England accepts peace with Spain. Munster, Meath, and Leinster to Spain. France accepts peace with Spain. Calais and Mecklemburg to Spain. Portugal accepts white peace with Spain.
3/8: Papal States declares war on Spain. Austria joins.

Interval 20:
January 1st 1632 – December 31st 1641

Summary:
As this period ends, my strategic position is impeccable. There are only 20 nations left to bring to their knees before the might of Spain. I now control all of the Middle East except the territory that is roughly modern Turkey and a single colony of France. French and Turkish colonies dot the lower half of Africa, but the rest is pretty much mine. Annexing Georgia gave me a port on the Black Sea and now I can easily move troops into the area via water. I control all of Italy except 2 French provinces (Modena and Mantua) that I plan on taking in the next war with France. I making so much money, I built 7 manufactories and spend 7000g+ on civil servant promotions during the last half of the period. My troop strength is well over 700,000 and I still have 330+ manpower in reserve. My fleets are so technologically advanced, that a single troops delivery often results in the annihilation of an entire nations’ fleet. The long series of hard wars has reduced enemy armies to drastically low levels as they will expend their entire national treasury on building an army only to find an army seven times their size marching across the border. A month later, another army ten times their size enters. It is a sad day for my enemies. The non-European dominance phase is now technically over. I now turn my attention to reducing Europe to Spanish provinces and seven one-province once powerful nations.

Summary:
I made some good progress this period. I am slowly devouring Turkey. I now own all provinces in the HRE except 3. I have killed Helvetia and taken bites out of France and Austria. I have also made a lot of fortress upgrades and built some more manufactories. I have reduced England to one non-colonial territory (Anglia) and a few trading posts. France, since I have allowed her to go unmolested for over a century, is still very strong. Turkey is difficult to deal with because of her size and sprawl. I didn’t even send an army into Astrakhan because she has a lone province in the middle of the Balkans that I cant get to, so why bother. Venice has the same situation and it PISSES ME OFF. I would have a lot more territory if they didn’t have those isolated Balkan provinces.

Summary:
The two war fought during this period went well. I now control all of Africa save 6 provinces (3 of which are trading post waiting to be burned and replaced). I have reduced the French colonial empire to 2 colonies and 2 trading posts. Unfortunately, Turkey annexed Sibir and has begun placing trading posts into Siberia. I am coming the other way though, so they wont get far. The second war with France went badly. They ambushed and killed a large number of cannons, so I was only able to get their last colony in the Middle East (which I now own all of). I would have killed Venice and and Astrakhan, but as I explained in the last post, they have errant provinces. Also, Sweden has two provinces in Russia, so I have changed to a new strategy. They are currently allied with Turkey. So, I have been sending lots of State Gifts to soften them up. I am going to declare war on Turkey and hopefully they will break the alliance. Then I can make a new alliance with them vassalize them, and in ten to twenty years, annex them. That will save a lot of pain. Russia is a lot more pathetic than I thought. Her tech levels are so low, that I can wipe her aside easily. Turkey and France are the bad boys. France is doing pretty good tech wise and fighting them is a big fat pain in the ass. While I underestimated them this time, I will not next time. Turkey is just big and located on tough terrain. However, my annexation of Hungary places me in a position to take those Balkan provinces from Venice and Astrakhan in the next war. Two more annexations await me. BTW: I just broke 10,000 Victory Points.

Actually, I sincerely doubt I will conquer the world by 1700. It would take a miracle. However, I will definitely conquer the world by, at the latest, the 1750-1760s. Unless I make a catastophic mistake and..... well, I cant even think of a mistake that big. So, nevermind.

You're diong surprisingly well in this game! I do feel kind of dissappointed, now that I know with this strategy the world can be conquered and the other nations cant do anything about it. You seem such a good player, that maybe you should do one of these 'conquer the world' things for another nation, like France.

Just a Thought!

Response to Japan

First of all I want to give a shout out to a fellow Japanese flag flier. You are the only other person I have seen on here using a Japanese flag for their symbol. GO JAPAN!!

Secondly, I want to thank you for your compliments. I have focused very hard on pushing the limits with EU and I appreciate your acknowledgement.

Thirdly, I have considered another nation going for the World Domination goal. France is definitely the best choice. They can fight in Europe for the first century of the game (the opposite of Spain's strategy) and then once the other powers are too poor to afford a colonial empire, much less defend the trading posts they can afford, you can take your time bringing down Nippon, China, and the Indian states. If you play your cards right, you can screw Spain (by taking Andalusia and Toledo in a 1492 war, then other Iberian provinces in successive wars, you can weaken Spain so much that they will have trouble building an empire, much less stop the Dutch revolts. After the Netherlands comes into being, you can annex it and put down the rebellions yourself. From then on, Spain is a worthless piece of *&*%.) and take England (Using Calais as a Casus Belli, but not ever taking it in a piece treaty, you can take all of England relatively quickly at the beginning of the game, preventing them from ever even having an empire of note). After England and Spain are out of the game (for all intents and purposes they will be reduced to the status of Portugal), you can subdue the continent and then turn to the world later (after you have high tech levels to make expansion rapid and unstoppable).

However, Turkey is definitely a front runner as well. They are in a good position to both expand on land and then colonially once they annex Persia and get nice ports on the Indian Ocean. This allows them to let Spain have the Americas while they devour the Far East (which is much wealthier). However, the biggest drawback is in military technology. Even if you acquire large amounts of land and inflowing capital, you will have to work hard to keep up with Poland-Lithuania and Russia, much less take on France or Austria. Additionally, you must wait for a long time to get an explorer and because of your slow tech development, you will have a very difficult time with non-specialist exploration. So, despite being the shining star, Turkey faces serious problems.

My next AAR (you beat me to the punch) will be another world conquest one. I like the challenge.

Summary:
This period was rather interesting. As I hoped, Sweden dishonored their alliance with Turkey and I quickly drew up an alliance with them myself. They are currently fighting wars, so I can’t start trying to vassalize them yet. The war with Turkey went well and I snatched up a three Turkish provinces. I took a nice bite out of Russia as well. The big land grab this period was the annexation of Astrakhan. I have been spending large amounts of money and attention on putting down rebellions. I have so many conquered lands that there are two or three rebellions every month. I have over 4 million troops deployed around the world; the vast majority of which are sitting in conquered provinces to put down rebellions. I am not going to hit my personal goal of 1700 for world conquest. France has been avoiding war with me, which I think is unusual. I had expected them to be at my throat every chance they got. This put a severe slowdown on my domination effort because France is just sitting there. I would declare war on them, but I lack a Casus Belli and I cant afford the stability drop. I have enough problems with rebellions already. After I have researched all the military technologies, I can declare war and slide the stability bar to the max. With my cash flow, I will be back on track in less than a year. But alas, I must wait.

Summary:
This was a good period of advancement. I got six provinces out of Turkey, three from Russia, three from Poland-Lithuania, and three from Venice (ending their sovereignty completely). I have decided to start calling Poland-Lithuania just Poland, since they no longer own the province of Lithuania. I vassalized Sweden this period and next period she will be annexed, expanding my territory greatly. Unfortunately, to end her war with France, Sweden war forced to cede a province in Scandinavia, making France a bigger pain than she already is. Despite fighting two wars, once again France avoided me. This angers me greatly. At the very end of the period, my armies marched into the Caucasus area and discovered the last pieces of unknown territory in the world.

Summary:
There was some nice advancement made during this period. However, once again, I could not attract France into declaring war. Even when my war with Austria drug out into eternity, France did not declare war. Not only did France avoid war, she got a new CoT. It angers me immensely. However, they will pay. Oh yes, they will pay. I am closing on the end of land technology and after that naval will finish quickly. Then, my wrath will turn to France. On a good note, I finished off Austria; leaving her only her capital province. Additionally, I took three more provinces from Poland and from Turkey. I also managed to divert some units to grab the two British trading posts in Madagascar and rip them from England’s dirty grasp.
