1st September 1939 - 10th September 1939

Finally, the day has come, at 00:00 1st September we have given the Poles an ultimatum, either they accept the annexation of Danzig into the Reich and the permission to build a railroad and an Autobahn between Germany and East Prussia or a state of war will exist between our countries:

danzigorwar.jpg

The Polish refused and with the support of France and England, they decided to resist our troops, sadly for them, the Polish Army was not deployed for an assault from the West:

polenarmee1.jpg

they overextended their lines

it's time to probe our theories about land warfare

blitzkrieg.jpg

Our Uboots were sent to the North Atlantic before and when the war started, they were already in position

nearly 6 hours after the first shots, German troops obtain their first victories

more and more battles were finished before the first day of war:

not a day and it seems as if the Poles were already beaten

after 3 days, our convoys were attacked, what made us to cancel all trade with the USA, and we finally managed to conquer Danzig, the Apple of Discord

not 6 days of naval war and the Royal Navy already finds one of our Wolfpacks, they can't do a lot against the surface fleet, which encourages us more to get a proper battlefleet

at least they give a fine fight

it seems that many countries don't trust a diplomatic solution can be found and a state of alert has been declared for the following armed forces

10 days of fighting and finally Warsaw has fallen, not a minute after the Polish Government surrendered to the German Reich

with an astonishing speed, the Soviets were reclaiming their part, even though they didn't fire a single shot

nachdemfeldzug.jpg

note that there is no GiE, they simple lost their will to fight... An Armee will be left to guard our new border and a few security units will be sent as soon as they become available

After the Fall of Poland, that's how the world is aligning

Another Poland lost the will to fight and gets annexed, nice going!
Did you smash them in 10 days? That's good work.

Nice U-boot zones you got there, but I wouldn't want to be the one near Gibraltar :) and it looks like that in this mod you got to move the subs after each successful sinking.

What's up with that German province in the middle of Lithuania? :D

On to Paris then...

I think I'll have to do some small stops before, like, lets say, Amsterdam, Luxemburg and Bruxelles...

not all the credit goes for the plan or the Wehrmacht, much of them goes to the Poles who left their Western borders some kind of unguarded... and I think their NU was too low and that¿s why they surrendered instead of going GiE

Good job on Poland, guille. This is one of my favourite mods, so I'll definitely be following this one closely.

thanks Pelican! I'm waiting the new version of the mod, I've read all what is coming and it's really interesting, nevertheless I'll finish this game with current version

that Wolfpack was the one which lost an Uboot indeed, I had to call them home... and no attacks in that area until the big guns of the Bismarck are available to protect my poor grey wolves

Isn't that just a low intel province?
Yea that looks like fog of war to me.
Indeed, fog of war

Great update!

thanks! We are having a long weekend and I had no plans so, hopefully, there will be more updates... I'm sorry the Poles didn't put a real fight like in other games I've played

Dang, I'm colorblind...

I like that Poland is annexed. I don't get the concept of SU annexing their half of Poland while Germany suffers atrittion on top of reduced supply throughput I see in almost every AAR. HPP Poland gets annexed most of the times, which solves things :p

10th September 1939 - 10th November 1939

while the German-French border is a quiet front, the north Atlantic is slowly turning into a huge graveyard for both Allied merchants/escorts and German subs

azoresnav2.jpg

and our losses are not precisely affordable ones

azoresresult1.jpg

more wolfpacks had to be called home and only 3 groups (18 Uboots) were raiding the supplies lines of England at the end of the month, but it was a good hunting season

ubootssinks.jpg

of course, that kind of success can only attract unwanted attention

westthulearisebat1.jpg

after this, all Uboots were ordered to return to the Base at Emden, were replaces were ready, almost all of our Uboots constructions were destined to reinforce our existing Wolfpacks, so, no more daring attacks until better bases can be find and the surface fleet is ready to support the Uboots missions

While the Kriesgmarine was licking her wounds, a lot of decisions just came up

decitions1.jpg

the Sturmgeschutz and the Polizei were obvious ones, but the conversion of merchants ships into auxiliary cruiser was one that only our horrible losses in the seas forced us to accept

After a lot of arguments, Himmler finally got a little (but significant) expansion of his personal army called the Waffen SS

totcreation.jpg

and while September was a calm month over the skies of Europe, October saw the first (and only one till now) attempt of the Strategic Command to hinder our war industries

frisiancoast1.jpg

without proper air cover, the British bombers are just like sitting ducks for our heavy fighters

and, during that same month, the good Aussenminister von Ribbentrop appeared with more bad news

nethmov.jpg
neuzealandallies.jpg

Canada followed the steps of New Zealand a few days after, but he had not the gutters to inform more bad news so we just heard it on the BBC

a grateful country honors its heroes, so the Ritter Kreuz award has been created

rittereiserneskreuz.jpg

sadly, the Polish campaign was too quick for our brave men to been decorated

the Eastern border was covered by Heersgruppe C under Feldmarschall Rommel and two Armees, let's hope they don't have to stop a Red tidal...

endofpoland.jpg

uprisings are going to be a problem in the future if police and special troops are not sent to control local population... on the other hand, a lot of Volksdeutsche living in Poland are now German citizens and can be recruited

Finally, as it seems that the Western powers are not willing to find a diplomatic solution (neither are considering them declare war on the SU even though they swallowed a huge amount of Polish soil) a plan to deal with them must be developed

fateofrance.jpg

this is case Bismarck, red arrows are Unternehmen Wilhelm, the first step of the invasion of France... yellow arrows are eventual paths to follow, but until the first objectives are not achieved, no further plans are going to be developed

heersgruppeB.jpg

Heersgruppe B will gain glory or death in the West... more reinforcements will be given it as soon as they become available

I don't see it happening a lot in DWI (Polands NU must be really low), but with the annexation of the old provinces of the Second Reich and the further expansion with the creation of the Warthegau, the General Government area is easily covered with three or four gar/gar/pol divs and one cavalry brigade just in case

That naval war isn't going too smooth right? I hope your future submarine replacements will have the range to operate further from Allied bases, to avoid detection. Or you could just go and sink half the RN like I did........
Do you think you were just unlucky that all the subs got caught in one big battle or did they never really stand a chance? I'd expect that several smaller units would evade the enemy more easily.
I do like the simple plan for France. Covers all the important parts and no unnessesary complications, which is always nice. I like how the followup part isn't yet set in stone, as it shouldn't be. Too many uncertainties.

I think I'll reduce the Wolfpacks from 6 to 4, but for now, tipe IX is all what I have, a better submarine won't come till 2 years at least, I'm already ahead in that area of research, and for sinking the RN, until mid-1940 when the Bismarck and Tirpitz are ready for service, the only thing I can do is to send my grey wolves again and pray they won't be found that easy this time, but as you have seen, the entire RN plus la Royale are sailing the norht Atlantic

I'm not sure, but isn't even 4 per group a bit much? I remember when I once used subs I send em in pairs of 2 each. That way they'r too large to be sunk by convoy escorts or anything, yet small enough to have a chance at evading destroyers. But that was way back in FTM, maybe things changed, maybe the mod changes things I don't know.
But yes, evading half the RN is gonna be very difficult.
