Hi here,

I was wondering how do you people manage to give loans to other countries. Any times I tried it was refused, even with close allies (RM, relation >+190 ...), whatever the rate was (even tried 3 % for 10 or 20 years, the kind of loan I would accept in real life...)

hx for your help

AI generally refuse to borrow from you big amounts. Begin with 10d at 10% they will generally accept. Continue and increase progressively the amount. They should follow you but not always. Try majors and not minors. Majors need a lot of money for war, colonization ,etc.

France and Spain are 2 good customers generally.

In over 2 years of playing I have NEVER been able to get a computer controlled country to accept a loan of any size under any circumstances. Even when a major nation is at war and losing I can't even give them money (loan at 0% interest).

To be completely fair, I have never made giving loans a priority either.

I've never had a loan offer accepted either, but I don't think I've ever tried giving it to a major. I've wanted to set it up with a vassal so it would come due after I plan on asking them to be annexed, hoping that not having to pay me back would help convince them to be annexed. Guess I'll never know....

my experience is that friendly nations are more likely to accept a loan and that if they are in a war, they are even more likely (they need the money). if you start small (10) gp , you can make them build indebtedness up over time (as their economy collapses).

there's some amusing strategies elsewhere on the forum for being a banker nation. takes some patience, but it can pay off big, however, i dont think most players are open to the kind of style of gameplay. i know im not.

I'll have to try it some time; I've always wanted to play the Germans in Conquistador:D . Maybe in my next game, playing Austria, and I could be lending to both Spain and France while they fight each other:cool: .

The system works

I am playing Saxony (GC, normal/normal). I loaned 20d to these countries the first time I submitted the proposal:

France (even 30d!)
Holland
England
Portugal
Turkey
Sweden
Russia
Austria

The conditions? 20d at 10% for 300 months. All of these accepted.
 I do not have great relations with everyone. France, Portugal and Turkey are a bit over neutrality.
