Giving away titles

I decided for my first attempt at this game to use England as William the Conquer starting date is December 1066. I am slowly getting the basics for the game but one problem is still coursing me problems. King William starts off owning too many titles which is coursing him to be very unpopular with the other lords. I was hoping to give away some of his titles to other lords to bring my title count down to a more reasonable level. However even after going through all the tutorials and the manual I still can't find out how to do it......I am sure I am missing something obvious but I can't find out what. Any advice on this matter would be most useful.

Secondly I still have a large number of Saxon lords in the kingdom, I am hoping to keep one or two of them, but some of the most rebellious will have to go, so my second question would be how to I take titles away from people.

You can do both of those things from the target character's diplomacy screen. You can choose to grant or revoke titles right from there.

If you revoke a title, it makes all of your vassals mad, so you might not want to do much of that.

if you click on diplomacy for a char, the son or heir to keep the titles in your dynasty, should be an option to grant land holding title, normally below revoke option if they have any already.

same as giving titles, you can revoke them if you have claims on it by clicking the char or clicking on the duchy, county shield you want to take away and it will take you to a title screen giving you options and showing who owns what, what county is there and the titles for holdings etc.

This is what you do: Go to the character you want to give a title to. He needs to be in your court or a vassal's. When you are in the interaction menu(right click on the portrait and choose to go to the diplomacy window), the uppermost option is to grant a landed title. Click that. You need to give the character a barony or county before you can give him a higher title. Hope that helps.

Also, if you ever replay as The Bastard, as I understand it, the key is to actually conquer as much of England as possible before accepting the crown. When I tried it int the Demo, I personally owned pretty much all southern England, and when the Saxon Dukes rebelled, they were easily put down. When my SOB son-in-law the King of France DoWed me claiming Normandy, that was another matter. But the key to dis-owning the Saxons is to besiege all their stuff before you accept peace. Or fight off the rebellions, each of which lets you revoke one title (only) for no tyranny penalty. Court Jester is helpful, putting them into an empty Council spot and kicking them can help, events are nice. Heck, give them a wrong-holding province (if you have one) and they'll be -30 forever.

That´s not the best advice for all situations, for 2 reasons:

1- Everyone dislikes you, including bishops and mayors, so not only you will have less troops but also LESS money because bishops that hate you don´t pay taxes. A mistake lots of newbies don´t notice.
2- More plots and if your son is dumb unlike William then chances of not doing anything of note during the reign is huge, or worse, being killed.

Then when a powerful country DOWs you you are screwed. If it was a multiplayer game between two countries of the same size, King Harold the Puppy-feeder with his happy vassals will spank King Ivan the Brain-eater with his tons of titles.

+1, unfortunately revoking titles is very hard on your realm stats and relation to your vassals. The only "safe" way to revoke a title is to do so through enforcing demands on a vassal that is in open rebellion.
