I have had 4 failed attempts on Ironman Regular so far as historical Germany and this is my things so far. My viewpoints are based on 2500 hours of roleplaying the gaming and I play to immerse myself in the game. So people who are elitists and do all the math may strongly agree with my viewpoints.

1. The AI is improved. And everything is harder now. There is an overall buff to organization. Which is fine. The fights last longer. However, the AI is a lot better to keep its units entrenched and the AI divisions seems to have a lot higher defensive values. This brings some issues for me. First I need to massively overwhelm my enemy with 40-width divisions. And even then when fighting on optimal terrority and few penalties.

The historical accuracy of this to me feel a bit off. Attacking should be harder. But it shouldn't need and ratio of 3 to 1 in the amount of battalions to take out an inferior enemy.

2. In all my 4 games Italy as my ally was a complete mess. He sent 50-60 convoys at the time through the English Channel and keept loosing them. He always also suicide his entire army against the french border. Spending of 1-2 million on absolutely no territorial gain what so ever. And when I manage to take France, the whole country was occupied by Italy. And he always failed to guard his ports and I had to deal with all his invations all the time.

3. I love the command system. However, the XP gain seems fairly low. In 1944 I was on Service by Requirement. (To explain how much I have been involved in combat). I had 3 Field Marshals with total of 11 Generals with 24 divisions each. Only 3 times from 36 to 44 I was able to do a promotion. So its a good system that seems a bit unrewarding.

4. I love the namelists, the attach airwing stuff, air supply, decisions etc.

I do wished however that the game was tested properly. And I wonder if the current difficulty increase was intended by Paradox. They didn't seem to mention in the patch notes. And if you feel like telling me that my skill is not high enough. I was prior to 1.5 easily able to do world conquests with all countries quite easily. And now I struggle even by getting through ww2. And I do not believe I just lost the ability to play the game over night.

There might be certain "exploits" and playstyles that would my attempts a lot easier. But I really dislike being forced to a very narrow specific playstyle. Like for example having a must of selv propelled artillary by unhistorical amounts in my divisions to do the same stuff I could do before with regular infantry.

Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to your replies.

Yeah it was harder than before and ofc its good thing. Now you can actually lost many men againts Russia. My game as Germany i use 20-30 width divisions and conquered Sov in 43. I too like historical play without cheesy tactics.

My Barbarossa army was 192 divisions (2 FMs and 8 generals) + 15 divisions in Norway. After year of fighting all generals and FMs earned 1-2 skills. I was on Service by Requirement too.
