By small, I do mean something like 0.1 (or maybe even 0.05). At 0.1, 100 pops would have an alloy upkeep of 10. I think this would be a plausible nerf to rein in the strength of robots (even after the nerfs, 100% habitability is so good).

That would be very nice, especially if the Mechanist Origin gives even a slight reduction to this Upkeep.

I think 0.05 Alloys per month per Robotic POP would be good, and with Mechanist giving a -10% reduction.

tbh, I never thought the 100% habitability made any sense. I can see them getting a boost to habitability, but a flat 100% doesn't make sense. Robots would be affected by temperature and weather just as any organic. Dust in desert planets clog air intakes. Same with mold and spores on jungle planets. Cold air on artic worlds plays havoc with batteries, etc. More importantly, unlike organics, robots can't self-heal. They need to get whatever damaged part replaced.

With Lithoids being able to produce fractional amount of rare crystals, they paved the road for such adjustment anyway.

Don't even start with lithoids, they get the HUGE combo of both Robust and Extremely Adaptive as a single completely free Lithoid only trait!
That's way too OP, that causes Lithoids to usually run away in population across all empires they have a migration treaty with!

Yeah, but my point was: when Lithoids can produce 0.01 crystals a month, robots can cost 0.05 alliages a month as well. There is no technical reason they couldn't.

Very interesting idea. I am even fine with 0.1 version, you can stack materialist robot trait(low maintain) and maybe mechanist origin... so there is some stacking on upkeep. And if you dont love robots... well you will not pay much anyway.
Robots seemts to be so meta, some nerf will make game different.
