I've been studying the Pacific theater for months now and it just seems faaar more interesting than the European war which I've studied to death
So I really want to play as Japan

But on the other hand Japan was behind on tech compared to Germany and Germany has such crazy and cool units like the mp44 v weapons me262s tigers elite infantry etc plus well it's freaking ww2 Germany!

So I am torn I really really want to play as Japan but it seems that in hoi games Japan is just kinda there to a take over Asia and be provide annoyances to Germany enemies

So please give me some reasons to pick Japan over Germany

Gonna state the obvious here, so prepare yourself: Why not both?

I'd say Germany first, to get the hang of the game, but you can also have two different saves and alternate. It sounds like you wanna play Japan first, though, and are asking everyone here to justify it. Just do whatever you want, man.

Because I want to master one nation and that will be the nation I play 99 percent of the time I will never play the allies USA British etc (I don't count the ussr or China as an allied nation) so I I'll probably play as then at some point. But I want to pick 1 nation and master it completely

That's pretty silly. You're taking advantage of only a small part of the game if you do that.

Why play Japan? Because that's where the real challenge is. Germany in all HoI games has always stood a good chance at winning a traditional WW2, with Barbarossa and all. Japan? Not so much. Playing Japan and winning in China and fighting the USA to a stalemate takes much more skill, not to mention it requires you to master not just land/air combat but naval combat as well.

That's why you play Japan, because apart from Italy (which lives and dies with Germany), Japan is the single most challenging superpower to play. Not to mention it gets pretty much all the cool ships.

Each to his own. Sounds to me you are either

A) Going to be playing what sounds like "seriously competitive" multiplayer (I laugh every time I imagine a Paradox game multiplayer session with strangers in competative)
B) You in reality don't care and just want to get a little Germany-hype out of your system since the game isn't released.
C) Genuinely think other people's opinions matter.

Honestly, you are completely entitled to not playing Japan, to playing Germany 99% of the time and mastering them, that's fine. Nobody here is going to notice unless you are on multiplayer, and if you are playing multiplayer then, hey, you just got good at playing as Germany. If you genuinely want a reason to play Japan over Germany, here are just some reasons I can think of

1) Easier position to learn the game. You have China right there to beat, and looks like they will be a pushover in HoI 4.
2) Harder Axis nation to win the war as. Maybe be a bigger war contributor than Germany.
3) Deviate history. Japan doesn't have to join the Axis in HoI 4. They can coup their government and join the Allies or Communists.
4) Form a fourth faction.
5) Nuke San Francisco and Los Angeles.
6) Become a weeaboo.
7) Invent jets and completely destroy the "West is Best" status quo.
8) Stay neutral and spam volunteers to everyone.
9) Stay neutral and be a war profiteer.

Just SOME reasons for why I would personally play Japan over Germany for a first game. Just play whatever entertains you.

Why play as Japan?
A) Each military organ is needed, unlike Germany where you ingore the navy completely
B) It's harder to manage resources in the early game
C) weaker industrial base at the start, meaning tougher challenge
D) you won't be able to mass produce tanks as you won't have the oil for it and will be forced to produce powerful infantry with limited amounts of manpower
E) fighting the USSR will only bring you some provinces in the East and no industrial gain
F) China will be a pain to fight as they are huge and have a lot more manpower than you, although you will be able to make some good batallions once you have taken China under you
G) plunging into India and British South East Asia will either be a pain or a walk in the park depending on how Germany is doing
H) You stand a chance to cripple the British Empire by taking out its colonies in Asia and the Americas
I) You can invade Mexico (as they usually join Allies) and get that cheap manpower and resources for the "Made in the Japanese colony of China" products
J) the USA doesn't give a shit about your expansion as long as you don't fuck with it and improve your relations
K) It's one of the major powers
L) Harder start, and depending on how you play your cards, a way easier middle and end-game state, to the point that you could successfully pull off an invasion of the USA.

#1(Politics). Japan has WAY more options with thier expansion than Germany or Italy ever will. Japan can choose what faction to join. Japan has a easy time of dividing and conquering it's enemies. Want to focus on Great Britain and not attack the USA buying you months of expansion and possibly hurting the Royal Navy, it's your choice. Want to knock out China early and prepare for a axis war on the USSR or keep the China war dragging on for good laws and industrial output for a war against the west, your choice. Japan is probably the most flexible major power when it comes to strategic diplomacy.
#2(Strategic Focus). Japan should be called the nation who really uses blitzkrieg tactics. The IJN has the ability to transfer entire armies very quickly to India, E. Asia, Austrailia, Africa or the Western Americas. Again it's all about options and Japan has a mountain of options.
#3(Tactical Focus). With a strong IJN Japan can set up many ambushes/attacks that will favor them easily. A large land force is threatening you from Wake Islands? Send in the IJN and starve them out for a few months before the Marines come in. You can also leave island bases weak, as bait, once the enemy takes it send in IJN, starve and land troops. A enemy trying to advance in the Pacific against a strong IJN is asking for punishment.

Japan is all about choices and she has a lot of them. Her biggest and only real threat is getting overwhelmed

From what's been seen, which would provide more satisfaction for winning as much as possible? I'd say Italy since they're.. y'know, Italy. It's already been explained above, but of the two? Japan definitely just because when I look at or play japan, every moment seems satisfactory between gaining the massive resource giant of Chinese Asia, putting the USSR into their place, and then taking over America or wherever. Germany seems limited to Europa, parts of Africa and Asia minor. Anyway, Japan looks much more rewarding to play.

Why ? Becouse Germany is most boring country to play, 99% of games will end in barbarossa.
Evry other great power has more choices even soviets ( going after China, Japan or India) and Brits (get the colonies back)
while Germany no mater what almost evry time will end in war with soviets (there exist an focus to ally with them but i think it will be rare for peopole to use it),

This have no importance in HOI4, you can research whatever you wan't. However what country you chose you will not be able to research all technologies.

Sure Germany did employ some impressive technologies but in many areas they was far behind, and that is how it will be for you as well.
