Is it possible to give London a Port to the seazone adjacent to Norwich and Dover? Would make sense for shipping purposes, as inland capitals don't seem to like colonies.

I simply added a port and seazone in the Province.csv, but that just locked up the game. Can it be done, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

You’ll need to edit the "Port Seazone"
I think it is the red one.

Yes, I've got that one.

If I change it to 2395, which is the seazone I want, it locks the game up when it reads the province.csv.

I assume it's because 2395 isn't technically adjacent to 19, which is London, and it breaks the game.
But setting adjacent tiles requires me to tool around with a hex editor and the adjacent.tbl files, I think.

What happens is that the game has to go and recreate a file called "navaldist.tbl" if you have amended any of the port/seazone links (including adding new ports). This file is about 8.5 MB in size, and the game will recreate it when you run it - but on a slow machine it could take 1/2 hr to create it. On a fast machine, it will only take a few minutes.

So, let your "locked up" machine run for a while, and see if it "unlocks" after a while. This will only occur the first time you run the game after revising the province.csv this way - thereafter, the new file is already there (cos you created it first time around).

For the actual editing, I recommend using a spreadsheet programme such as OpenOffice Calc, although I assume the OP has already taken care of his editing.

London having a port raises an interesting question. While it is certainly quite possible to sail rather far inland along the Thames in peacetime and having such a port does alleviate the problem of (accidental) abuse of the fact that surrounding London puts the entire Empire out of supply, there would also be a number of means for an enemy controlling both riverbanks to block any passage along the river. The natural solution appears to be to define two canal connections between London and the Channel passing through the northern and southern adjacents, respectively, but this would largely negate the effects of London having a port.

Of course, a single-player campaign would already be won by the time London is surrounded.

I tried giving London a port, and let the game correct the Navaldist.tbl. That did work. London got a port, had the little icon, etc.
The problem there is that the port is still unaccessible, and no ships can get to it. This includes convoys.
Naturally, all auto-convoys are set to London by the game, since it thinks London has a port. But since there are no routes open to the port, none of the convoys work and don't bring in or take out resources.
I don't know if making Norwich and Dover a channel will work for that. Must just not be able to happen.

You might try asking the guys at the TRP mod...they did it with both London and Hamburg...
IIRC they created a canal (like the Kiel Canal) leading from the sea zone to the "interior" province with the port.

Visit site
This might be a bit of an easier fix, this is from ether TRP or Compendium Mod

it is located in the map folder in the adj-defs file.

you will have to rework it for london. :)

It definitely works

Port to add in provinces.csv

This in adj-defs.csv

2473;88;Canal;88;Hamburg Port
2395;19;Canal;19;London Port

This into country.inc files

province = {
id = 88

naval_base = {
size = 10
current_size = 10
}
}

province = {
id = 19

naval_base = {
size = 10
current_size = 10
}
}

And voila, ports are accessable for fleets and everything

Why do you have the canals going through the end points?
