I don't really mind the new terrain system mechanics-wise but visually its quite a step back, and distressing.
Can we please go back to the dispersed trees, marshes and overall map graphics of 1.9? The simple terrain system mechanics-wise (and as a separate strategic map layer) is fine.
As 1.10 with its massive bunched forests (and no trees anywhere else) is choking Germany and Northeast America; given how clustered the HRE is, that makes it near impossible to even distinguish individual countries in the default physical map layer. As those provinces are "woods" they are now completely dominated by trees (which are absent everywhere else except for the Palms in the ME.) That the woods provinces are visually revamped to be completely forest has a logic I admit but its misguided. The Hungarian Plain looks much worse without some bits of scattered marsh. The Pripet Marches look sloppy with the sharp province edges to the marshes, and in general Eastern Europe looks much more generic in 1.10. North China is also now very bland.
Uggh...
When I first got El Dorado I thought it was a bug (and annoyed Andrew, in the Bug thread, harping on it), but now I am not so sure it was unintentional. It was also a buzzkill at first too, although I've sucked it up and played anyways (broken Custom Nation mechanics aside [which will be fixed in 1.11

].) But please, please can the map graphics in 1.11 go back to pre-1.10.1? Please. Even if you keep the simple terrain system. That's fine. If nothing else, perhaps it could be a toggled graphics option?
The EU4 physical layer used to be so beautiful and photo-realistic. Now its unsightly!

I may (or may not) post some comparative screenshots in this post (or a subsequent) post. If this is a popular issue I might also make its own thread in the main forum (to gauge general opinion) or just move this post to a new thread in the Suggestion Sub-Forum. But as I've deduced the visual changes were done to match the simple terrain map (which is puzzling since that system was there in 1.9) it can be kept here for now.
