I created a Quick, Strong, Attractive Count in my latest game, married him to a wife with no special inherited traits, and they got a daughter with the Quick trait. His wife then died. The next time, he married a wife with the Quick trait as well. Their son, however, got nothing special.

This is not the first time I have noticed this bent. I marry my rulers to Genius, Attractive, or Strong wives, hoping the get the traits for my new Ruler to be. Most of the girls get Genius. The boys usually don't. On the rare occasion where a boy gets good traits, he usually dies.

Anyone else noticed this?

In my current campaign, around half of my first generation princesses inherited the Strong trait from my founding character.
QED: girls are stronger than boys.

On the topic of funny quirks I did once have a ruler who had 13 children, 12 of which were girls and 1 boy who died an infant.

IIRC, the game tries to balance the male-female ratio. Especially in the earlier start dates, there's a lot more pre-generated men than women, so birthrate is skewed until it catches up.

Don't start me on that. In my last game, my first king had about 5 kids, 3 girls and 2 boys. Who then proceeded to have about 20 odd children of their own .... all GIRLS. I called it the GRANDDAUGHTER PLAGUE. :D

If you want to check your theory there is a simple way - just do a search under the Character Finder with the terms "Quick" and "Genius". Add up all the males and females and check the ratio, if it's much out from 50/50 then your theory is supported. If you don't want to search through all 20,000 characters or all maybe 1,000 Quick or genius characters then limit it by realm, clan or some other limiting factor.

Since the underlying attribute events to grant the Quick or Genius trait appears to be pure random I would strongly suspect that there is no gender bias, unless there is some bias in the initial trait distribution.

Without supporting documentation there is nothing to see here. People tend to emphasize the bad things that happen to them over the good. Unless you document what has happened to you, anything you report here that you "notice" will always be circumspect.

If you want to check your theory there is a simple way - just do a search under the Character Finder with the terms "Quick" and "Genius". Add up all the males and females and check the ratio, if it's much out from 50/50 then your theory is supported. If you don't want to search through all 20,000 characters or all maybe 1,000 Quick or genius characters then limit it by realm, clan or some other limiting factor.

Since the underlying attribute events to grant the Quick or Genius trait appears to be pure random I would strongly suspect that there is no gender bias, unless there is some bias in the initial trait distribution.

When you look at all living characters there actually might be bias towards there being more quick/genius women than men. Because characters with good stats might get chosen as commanders more often and therefore be more likely to die. Or they might get council jobs that are likely to get them killed/wounded. So it would be better to check only children.

That's an interesting point I didn't know about. I'm not saying you're lying, but is there code you could point to that suggests this? It could play a huge impact in my games, knowing that my first few characters are more likely to be daughters rather than sons.

Note that there are events that generate characters with traits (e.g. the hunting event where you come back home with a lover). These will bias the count somewhat (since most rulers will be heterosexual men, and thus get women from these events). You might want to limit to "Great House = Yes" as well; it will eliminate all the randomly generated lowborns clogging things up.

I actually ran the numbers in my current game. Results were as follows:

Quick:
Men: 221
Women: 133

So there is a heavy bias towards men there, HOWEVER! Most of the bias comes from adult lowborns, and specifically characters with Indian religions so I presume there is a common event for Indian religions that generates quick male characters. If you leave adult lowborns out, then that leaves 90 male and 94 female characters. So that's pretty much what you'd expect from random.

Genius:
Men: 87
Women:60

Again, smalll bias in adult lowborn subgroup, coming from Indian religions. And again, leaving lowborn adults out, it leaves us with 53 male and 49 female characaters.

In conclusion - Buddhism is sexist.

Playing Norse I would have been happy with that, but instead I got 8 boys. One of them a genius who hated my heir.

Real life does this to. After times of conflict and war (where more man die than woman), the birthrate of male children goes up.
Science isn't sure why (well why is to refill the male population, but more the how)

I totally agree with you. One of my rulers once got two kids; one boy and one girl. The boy was an imbecile. The girl was a genius. That means girls must be smarter than boys.

Side topic, would be great to have trait filters in the Find Character interface.

On the OP's topic, played 1 campaign as a muslim ruler of Egypt and now playing another as Halfdan Whiteshirt, and never had an imbecile daughter, but did have a couple of imbecile sons. On the genius trait, not sure if girls tend to inherit than more frequently.
