Hi,

I am quite dissapointed with your "GIP 0.5 for Doomsday".
Why ?
It is simple, you and your team didn't put enough effort into it so that it might look at least like a "decent try", assuming your intentions were fair.

Since your "improvements" consist in new icons for leaders, ministers and new pictures for tech teams and discoveries, let see what you have done:

1. Leaders
You didn't change more than 3-4% of the "great powers" leaders, namely on Germany, Russia, England, and that at best.
Lot of the new pictures are UGLIER than before, lot of german commanders now have some ridiculous small pictures, from were you cant understand nothing.
Italy, France and others have only 4-5 color leaders, out of few hundreds each.
You didn't even bother to check if some leaders and ministers match so you can use the same color pictures, so some of them remain black/white.

WOW guy! If you think you can do better than do so.... Remember this was done for free so, you really have no right to criticize... Also GIP .5 is no longer the latest version out as of like 3-4 weeks ago. As well where do you suggest to get "good" color pictures from WW2, especially with some of the countries that were not favored by the tides of war.

Part 2. Ministers

Assuming that you couldn't change many leader's pictures because of the high volume, you could have done a better work on the ministers. But no, you didn't.

With the exception of USA and England, were you have mediocre results, the rest is a shame. France for example have just few ministers, where you have chosen bad background colors, ex. the president. For the prime minister Eduard Daladier you are using such an ugly picture that even himself could not recognize.
That picture you have taken from a cover of "Time" magazine -June 5, 1939, "Man of the year"
By the way, do you have copyright to use photos from "Time" magazine ?

The german ministers look like some bad jokes. Other countries have only the HOS picture changed.

Part 3. Tech teams and discoveries.

To shorten up, here you have done even more mistakes.
Lot of discoveries have mixed-up or completely wrong pictures, even the important ones, like the computer and encryption techs.

Many tech teams have fantasy pictures, other have wrong-time related pictures of scientist, like Konrad Zuse from Germany and Marian Rejevsky from Poland, which have both later pictures, like 10-15 years old. Still I am glad you didn't use some picture of poor Zuse when he was 82 years old ( in case you don't know, he was born in 1910, so in 1936 he was 26 years old, not 50 like in your picture).

What is more disturbing is that you have used for some tech teams, pictures which are degrading and offending, taken DELIBERATELY from some photo albums made by ANTONIN KRATOCHVIL named "BROKEN DREAM" where he depict the world as he wanted, taking photos of poor man and ugly places.

For the Romania tech team "MAN", which have skill 6, you have used a photo from the above mentioned album, which in reality depict some burning pipes, in the vecinity of some factory. Even if that photo was taken in the vecinity of the "MAN" factory, it can't represent a complex of factories which even now are producing lot of trucks, tractors, motors and so on.

To answer to HalfTon Midget

Yes, I can do better, and I actually did.
That "GIP" has a team of more than one people, and I am only me.
In just a week, on my spare time, I finished the modifications on France, Poland, Italy and I am close to finish work on Romania and Ethiopia.

Notice that some of them, like Poland and Ethiopia, were indeed "not favored by the tides of war", by the contrary they even cease to exist for some years.

How to get "good color pictures from WW2" ?
Lot of search on the Internet :D
Use a very good program called "Recolored", which can indeed recolor a b/w picture.
I even change the units icons for some of those countries.

With some work and good will, is a simple task to accomplish.
:)

ok Blue.......

If you've done better by yourself then why insist on putting down a mod thats been out for a while? If your hope is to improve the mod then why don't you contribute to it? If you didn't/don't want to contribute to the mod ok, free will. But why insult people's work that was done for FREE?

I have no problem with constructive criticizism, but when somebody only points out bad things, and has the attitude that they are better than anybody else then that is just irritating.

If you think your mod's are better then post them and let people decide for themselves

It is simple, you and your team didn't put enough effort into it so that it might look at least like a "decent try", assuming your intentions were fair

Even though I'm tempted to start out by calling you a "spoiled little brat, who don't even have the guts to show us your own work, but instead just do a hit'n'run attack on our work," I'm not gonna do it. Primarily because you are right on some points. We could do more, if we had the time. I know this is gonna look like an excuse, but it really is not... It's merely an explanation. I know most GIP members have other things to do than actually work on this mod. Most of us are university students who work a little bit on this when school and work allow us the time. I myself don't even play HOI2 except for very rare occasions once or twice a year, so I actually feel quite offended when you imply that my (and the team's) intentions are not fair.

But then I remember that you can do it better. Fine I've wanted to find a person to replace me as leader of the GIP team, if you want to, the post is free for you. So take my place and do better. I would be happy to have more time to write my book!
