I have only played the demo version of HoI2 and have a few questions about the full version:

1) From HoI I remember that many of the major nations (most notably Germany and USSR) ended up with army sizes that were quite large compared to actual WWII army sizes. This was later "fixed" for Germany by drastically cutting manpower, but still exists for the Soviets. My way of seeing this is that in HoI the cost (measured in supply cost) of a division was way too low, so a division (at least a vanilla inf div) was basically free to maintain. Has this been fixed in HoI2?

2) In HoI the supply consumption of a unit that was in combat was (I think) x2 compared to a resting division. For many purposes I find this highly unrealistic (especially for highly mechanized units when fuel is concerned). Is this still the same in HoI2 or has supply/fuel consumption while in combat been increased a lot?

3) In HoI there was a very big difference in IC cost between producing a brand new division compared to reinforcing a strength 1 division back up to strength 100. In essence this is more or less the same thing, except the cost for it was drastically different. Playing as the Soviets in HoI I would never realy mind if my infantry divisions got ground down to around 10 strength or so (since it was basically free to reinforce back to 100), but when I lost a division (due to it getting 0 strength) I would be realy sad. Has this been fixed in HoI2?

I think the ~HoI2 way of doing things ensures there'll be no super-armies, as I play the demo I get a feel of the military/industrial complex being abit like fluid dynamics. You got surface area (number of divisions) you got flow (supplies, fuel) and you got pressure and resistance (generation if supplies and fuel, and ESE).

All this means that if you got a big army surface area, you need a powerful 'heart' to make sure it all gets adequately covered. In the previous model I get the impression that armies were not like a 'surface area' in the same way.

Or maybe I'm just having ano ther of my funny turns.

Like Sovereign said, read up on the logistics/transport capacity system. That surely does limit army sizes.

What I still don't know however is if you have to upgrade divisions HoI style. Was quite a hassle to ferry back all the divisions/air units to mainland USA to uprgrade them. I hope this has been changed somehow.

I certainly hope the usage of resources (TC, supplies or whatever they are know in HOI2) by army units will in peacetime be relatively low, but exponentially growing when units engage in combat. In HOI a division in peacetime did cost the same as while in war conditions, or as i saw above maybe 2x as much. Still not that realistic.
Let's see how Hoi2 handles this when i get my hands on the game :>

Long live the paradoxshop :>

how does it work if I want to upgrade a 36' unit to 43' unit? I read a preview that claimed you had to go through every stage inbetween. Do you have to upgrade the units every step of the way or can you skip steps? how, is it with cavalry, you have 39' cavalry and 39' halv-motorised cavalry, it'd be a bit costsome if you have to uppgrade twice

From the demo and AARs supplies seem to be a serious expenditure in wartime.

Upgrading is done "on-the-field" by distributing enough IC to the upgrade slider. Not at all like before.

Hurrah! That was my last doubt against HoI2, now I'll definitely get it. :) If the ebutik would actually process my order, that is.

I you still have troubles (like myself), mail to Flori (Paradox QA/Support) at florian@paradoxplaza.com, if you haven't already.

Be sure to include (got this from one of Floris posts):
1) What credit card you use; do NOT write your CC number

2) Exactly what error message you get

3) If your bank supports 3Dsecure or not (most banks do but not mine, so...)

Hope this helps.
