Do you know if it's possible to go from Spain to Africa without using any ships?

Anwering the Pope's call, I joined the crusade against Morocco as Bohemia... but then I noticed I don't have a single ship. The logistical question on getting our brave knights to the hated infidels now occupied the best mind of the Bohemian kingdoms. But one day, we will get there. Deus Vult!

By the way, is it possible to hire mercenary transports? During the crusades, Venecia leased their ships to the crusader armies, if I recall correctly.

By the way, is it possible to hire mercenary transports? During the crusades, Venecia leased their ships to the crusader armies, if I recall correctly.

It used to be possible, there was a strait between Gibraltar and Tangiers.

Apparently, it was removed in In Nomine, partly to prevent iberian expansion into Morrocco and Algeria early on.

The new AI is really adept at using transports though. Even with the strait removed, Portugal has conquered Tangiers and the two provinces south of it.

But as a landlocked nation? No boats for you. I don't know of a solution.

Yes, when I played with the Netherlands and blocked the strait of Dover with ships to keep the Spanish at bay they went around Britain and moved up to the Dutch coast from the North Sea, now that was a surprise!

Isn't that the "default" route to get past the british isles?
Never seen a ship go past the english channel if they're going from germany/sweden/etc to africa or so.

Try demanding something from them. Similar situation happened in my game where Morocco was the leader of an alliance with the Granada, who marked for crusade. I declared war and Genoa took out Granada for me; I took Granada's money. Morocco was willing to except my demands for max ducats despite not ever being involved in a single battle. They out numbered us and could have take on Genoa, but they just wanted the war over with.

I made 150 ducats doing nothing but declaring war.

Well in the past I only saw Spanish vessels try to reach the Netherlands by going through Dover, only if they send ships from colonies in the northern America's would Spanish vessels appear to come from the north sea in NA.

No.

Although you do get a nice bonus from being at war with the crusade target even if you can't invade them.

Spain and Portugal seem to be doing a pretty good job of expanding there regardless

It doesn't really bother me... when AI countries are big, they get aggressive - just like human players really.

It isn't and speaking about Venice, they didn't "rent" their's ships for money, but they wanted that Crusade army crush one city ( Zadar IIRC) because trade competition it made.
