I presume it needs to be big enough so you can fit a model of an airport, a naval port and a soldier I just hope the naval port does not block the straits.

Anti-aircraft guns as well perhaps even fortifications.

you should not be able to close the med from Gibraltar alone, The conditions in the straits due to the weather around the rock can create incredibly low visibility though fleets could take damage while passing without a fleet present in the strait itself I doubt you could have stopped anyone getting through at night or poor weather.

And as for invasions the only side you would have stood a chance was on the atlantic side otherwise the med side is where the majority of the fortifications are and no beach.

With shore based guns and radar no surface ship would get through.

As for invasions I think you would know better than me.

To all people that say it needs to be big, i agree with you. With what i do not agree is with getting the space eating Cadiz AND having TWO provinces instead one.

Gibraltar is too big?
By that logic, Germany should be tiny compared to China (1:25). Ever thought about that? Why not have a completely accurate world map? You'd spent hours scrolling over vast oceans and arctic regions. You'd have about 20 provinces in Germany or 500 in China, depending on which solution you'd pick.

I wish that one day, the entire "this ain't realistic"-crowd would join, fund a game with their own money and develop it. I bet you 1000:1 that they wouldn't sell any copies and even worse: they wouldn't enjoy their own game. They'd realize that game design doesn't work like that.

Btw. the US produced more war goods than all other nations combined. So let's beef up the US to a point where in multiplayer games, you'd only have US against the world as the only balanced games.

PS: The only way to have Gibraltar being realistic in size and still clickable would be the "Darkest Hour" solution. Have a tiny Gibraltar with an enlarged frame next to it. Not sure though that it's the most elegant solution.

How about giving gibraltar only a tiny province where it can have an airport and some troops inside and only one border with one pronvice (because its a rock with only one way to get into or out)?

id say just do what they did in darkest hour (which i think is the best hearts of iron game) but failing that i dont think its a big deal maybe they should make it so cadiz is in though, that seems a bit ridiculous.

I frankly can't understand why people insist it needs to be this big for gameplay. Yes, it needs to be big enough to be a province in the map. That alone wouled make it many times bigger than Gilbratar is in reality, no one is disagreeing with that. But games like Europa Universalis 4 and Victoria 2 menage to have smaller Gibraltar just fine. HoI is supposed to be more detailed in the province level, no? With smaller provinces overall. Why then Gibralter is so much bigger here than in the other games?

This.

Yes, Gibraltar should be enlarged, as should be the small islands all over the world that held any kind of importance in the war. That doesn't mean, however, that it should be bigger than necessary. Adding parts of Spain to it for no reason whatsoever is not necessary, and there is nothing wrong with making a comment about it.

What is wrong, however, are the attacks directed against the people who brought it up, accusing them of whining. If anything, it is the people who complain about that who are acting weird. No one talked about making everything the 100% correct size for every detail on the map, yet here come the attacks, trying to mock the people who brought it up by going over the top with the issue and putting words into their mouth which they never said. That is kind of pathetic.

There are complaints which are asking for a bit too much, or are about such a tiny detail that it isn't even worth talking about it. Asking for Gibraltar to be a bit smaller - which is very much possible and has been done in the past - is not one of those. It is a small but noticeable issue that can easily be fixed - and maybe would have been fixed for the final map anyway, doesn't hurt to ask though. No reason to attack the people who brought it up, acting as if they had asked the devs to create a whole new map.

As i said the british part we could see is made of 2 provinces, this is clearly a mistake that will most likely be fixed.

Looking more closely on the other video about tanks, when they talk about spain you barely see gibraltar at the edge of the screen. But it still shows quite clearly that it is actually 2 provinces, not one, thanks to more obvious borders and no FOW.

So clearly this is some mistake from PDS and the actual size of the province is something like in my mockup.

I think this looks terrible. Especially for provinces that connects to others. And the map now is in 3d and supposed to be continuous, not filled with a multitude of cut-out black boxes with large offset provinces in them.

You can do a cutout on a 3d map without it looking terrible.

As the rock is all I can see out of my office window I can assure you its pretty damn big!, but in fairness I imagine the reason it is so big ingame is to allow for a naval base, airport (I am guessing you can have an airport there unless you will share a regional airport with Spain though that doesn't work in rl so I doubt it would work in game.) and the sprite.

Well it sounds as if at least one other person here has actually been there.

Personally, I would suggest that Gib' should only be connected to Spain at one province. Algeciras, if that's on the map. Gib' is not, actually, an island so the link should be a land one. Although, personally, I think it would be better represented in the game mechanics if the link were a river to represent the difficulty of attacking through such a narrow strip of causeway.

Unless, of course, podcat & PDS are going to adopt the idea of province borders having different frontages. 10 being the norm & Gib'-Algeciras being 1 or maaayyybe 2.

Of course, it needs to be big enough to click on but what I'd really like to see is that it's the same size as the Pacific sub-continent of Midway *

I don't see many people complaining about the size of that.

All for the best reasons of common sense.

*OK, maybe not THAT big.

And I'd also like to see limits on the size of airfields, ports, fortifications & infrastructure that can be built on most "islands", but that's been on my wish-list for a very long time.

I think that specific design concept looks terrible for this type of game. For maps whose purpose is to in high detail convey location and/or shape i can appreciate it, but i would never want discontinuations in a game such as this.
