Gibraltar looks too damn big on the map!!!

Here's what i suggest as a middle ground (sorry for bad quality) :

The province would not be much larger than the province just above it (Marbella, between Gibraltar and Malaga), and it would be much more acceptable esthetically, and Cadiz wouldn't be chopped off Spain, even if they'd still lose Algerica.

Also it would only have 2 bordering provinces (cadiz and Marbella)

Me too, but it's kinda hard in the case of gibraltar. I tried to do that originally by having gibraltar as a big peninsula that would only connect with marbella but it would just look awful and unnatural. In the end in my mockup there's just 2 neighboring provinces. It's hard to do better without things looking weird.

I'm fairly relaxed, gameplay > accuracy (I'm hoping Malta's a good deal larger than real life in the game as well ;)). Think the 'only one adjoining province' is a much bigger issue than size (although a smaller Gibraltar may allow for less province connections?) Not convinced of inset boxes (not a bad suggestion, I'm just not sure they're the best solution :)), they're great for static maps, but could become confusing very quickly, particularly in relatively crowded areas like the Mediterranean.

I can see the issue. It just hit me about the possibility of simply having impassible borders like in ck2 or (IIRC eu4 too) along one of the sides.

Inset boxes worked somewhat for Darkest Hour because it's static 2D map (you can see how it looked here), but for a dynamic 3D map it would just look terrible.

As for the border issue, in my mockup you could probably try to extend the Cadiz border so that it encompasses the whole gibraltar-thing and thus leave only one border, but the Cadiz province would then look odd.

Looking more closely on the other video about tanks, when they talk about spain you barely see gibraltar at the edge of the screen. But it still shows quite clearly that it is actually 2 provinces, not one, thanks to more obvious borders and no FOW.

So clearly this is some mistake from PDS and the actual size of the province is something like in my mockup.

I agree that there should only be one adjoining province. The way to make it not look weird is to change the shape of the adjoining province, Marbella or whatever. Have that province wrap around whatever land mass is needed to make Gibraltar big enough to click on and place units in.

So clearly this is some mistake from PDS and the actual size of the province is something like in my mockup.

As the rock is all I can see out of my office window I can assure you its pretty damn big!, but in fairness I imagine the reason it is so big ingame is to allow for a naval base, airport (I am guessing you can have an airport there unless you will share a regional airport with Spain though that doesn't work in rl so I doubt it would work in game.) and the sprite.

Ideally Gibraltar should be large enough In game to have 3 neighbouring sea provinces. One to allow Invasion from the Atlantic. One sea province which Can be closed by controlling Gibraltar. and one which allows Gibraltar to be Invaded from the Mediterranean.

Could it still work if you just had control of Gibraltar blocking the border between the Med and the Atlantic? You could even have some kind of in-game mechanism for 'running the straights' if any Navy was feeling lucky, that'd probably remove the need for a third sea zone. Just throwing thoughts around, they could be rubbish :).

you should not be able to close the med from Gibraltar alone, The conditions in the straits due to the weather around the rock can create incredibly low visibility though fleets could take damage while passing without a fleet present in the strait itself I doubt you could have stopped anyone getting through at night or poor weather.

And as for invasions the only side you would have stood a chance was on the atlantic side otherwise the med side is where the majority of the fortifications are and no beach.

That should be in reverse the med side is the side with the beach.
