So I'm playing as Byzantium and I want to keep neat and sensible borders.
I recently got an event giving a core on Banat (owned by Transylvania). Though it would be a cakewalk to defeat them (they're allied to a 4-province Hungary and a large but wartorn Poland--I own Italy up to Tuscany and Venice, the Balkans from Serbia west and the Danube south, and all of Asia Minor), I want to preserve my pretty sparkly borders.
So I want to know: Is there any way to take your core off a province, short of obviously waiting the 50 years? I guess I can take the -0.03% prestige per year, but still...that adds up to like 1.5 prestige. Anyway, it's a very small annoyance, but any help would be appreciated.

Lose a war and give up your core in the peace deal.

Get into a war with a minor nation, then offer them tribute and revoke cores on the provinces you want. You may have to lose some battles to them becaues I've found the AI is apprehensive about getting tribute for doing nothing. Send in regiments in 1k stacks to drop your war score a bit

Or just fully occupy them. They wouldn't decline an offer in their favor if they have -100% warscore...

Then I suppose I'll have to wait until I'm losing a war to do this.
I like roleplaying, so I won't send thousands of men to their deaths or let my countryside be pillaged to lose that core.
Honestly there should be a mechanism for giving up a core that increases relations and lowers stability cost for a year or so...perhaps at the price of an immediate (small) hit in prestige.

I think there is no mechanic because historically it never happened(IIRC). If someone had a legitemate claim for something may as well keep it
