i'm a NOOB and have read that you can "revoke titles".
i've got a very disloyal vassal who's now declared war on me.

i reloaded and looked at assasination but have a low intrigue score and no cash anyway.

how do i revoke a title? i don't mind a vassal loyalty hit--my other vassals are devoted.

do i need specific laws to do this?

You don't need a specific law (as far as i know).

Check the screen where you declare war, offer marriage - and grant titles. It should be right under the last one, at the very bottom.

The higher your prestige and their loyalty, the higher chance of successfully revoking the title. i think. Succeed or fail, i think there is a loyalty hit (at least 25%) for all your vassals. Plus you take a reputation hit. So it can be done.

As for gold, not sure if it changed in DV, but in CK you could go into debt to give gifts. Which could bring the troublesome vassal up to 100 temporarily. (Either you think that could be an exploit, or you're just offering up some cash to accompany your threats to get what you want.)

(Though if it's a vassal's vassal - first you have to swipe the ducal/prince/emir title to become directly the liege and then revoke. But normally you'd just let the count make trouble for the duke if you're the king, right?)

You can't revoke the title of a vassal you're at war with.

Before the vassal actually rebels the option is available from the diplomacy screen. The normal diplomatic modifiers apply -- low BB, high relations, and high loyalty all make it more likely that the vassal will voluntarily give up the title.

It is not recommended you do this often. It gives BB and a sizeable loyalty to hit to all your remaining vassals.

For standard rebels it's usually better to let them rebel and take the titles you want militarily. Recognize their right to all titles you don't want, and force-vassalize them. If you take 1/3 or fewer of their titles you lose BB this way, keep them in the realm, win some prestige, all without pissing off the rest of your vassals.
