In my game as Burgundy, I got three counties and a ducal title from the King of France - most of it were his newly conquered lands in the Med, but I also got Evereux once he stripped it from the Normans.
I think you simply need to cultivate close relationship with your liege. For example, I had my Chancellor on an almost permanent diplomatic mission to Paris, and had my eldest daughter married to the King and my younger daughter bethrothed to King's brother. I was also fostering my granddaughters in Paris.
Incidentally, having a Chancellor on a mission to your liege's capital also improves relations with other courtiers there, so it really helps with some plots.
