I'd like to know how the ill trait works. I lost two of my three last kings to illness and it's making me sick (ok... that was a bad pun!). Seriously, is there something i can do to lower the chances of getting ill or improve the chances of recovering? Does someone know what are the chances for recovery or death?

The chance of becoming randomly ill is increased by having the depressed trait, having the stressed trait, being imprisoned, and not having a high health. So do things which remove stressed and depressed. I am not sure how to best remove those two traits but being content or diligent tends to remove depressed quicker.

I've noticed that stressed and depressed can be removed via event if you have a content courtier in your court. Unsure if you need to be on good terms with them, because the event refers to them as your friend.

Being ill is somewhat random, as is recovering from them. But, do make sure that your characters are not leading armies when they are ill. Logically, it affects their health if they're soldiering.

I believe it's a hidden stat that's inheritable. So long-lived families tend to have long-lived healthy children.

I almost always put a few points into health for my first king with the ruler designer. Because I don't want my first king with no heirs to die from a random illness or war injury before he can have a few kids and educated them himself. Almost always, my first few kings all live into their 70s. It's really pretty great.

The problem is you can't tell if a wife has high health without looking at her family tree, which no one does. At least I don't bother to. So after a few generations it returns to the average.

if you dont mind using the console a bit you can type "charinfo 1" into the console and hover the mouse over your wife and it shows health and fertility
