I want to do a roleplay game as USA where I stay democratic but still take the War Powers Act focus as a bit of a what if if the republicans won the 1936 election and tried to stay isolationist. I've also seen that there are events on the wiki where Douglas MacArthur can be elected in the 1944 election. I'd like to play a game where I play isolationist to start off, staying out of the war in Europe but maybe fighting off the Japanese when they invade before electing Douglas MacArthur and taking the War Powers Route after boosting fascist support to 30% but avoiding the civil war focuses. Does anyone know if this would work out if I played like this?

Alf Landon wins election - take gold standard focus
Take other focuses up until 1940 election
1940 election vote the democratic candidate as president so that can get MacArthur as the 1944 candidate (also interesting roleplay! - does anyone know who this candidate is in game?)
Fight off Japanese if needed
1944 election - elect MacArthur
Take War Powers Act and following focuses
Dominate world after axis, allies and comintern have all bled themselves dry for years
Win

And yes before anyone asks, my PC should be able to handle the lag at this late game!

This should work, at least based on how the events are laid out on the wiki.

Basically, going into the 1944 election season, America needs to be at war and have Roosevelt as President (New Deal National Spirit). You'll get an event asking if the Republicans should nominate McArthur. If you accept he'll be the Republican nominee instead of Dewey and you should be able to elect him (beware though, as the event implies, you'll lose him as a military commander). Staying at peace or defeating Japan early would preclude you from this. You also need greater than 50% democratic support, which shouldn't be an issue.

I think going to 30% fascist support starts the countdown to the civil war. Even if you avoid doing those focuses that also start it.

You need 2 “points” to start the civil war.

You get 1 point each from doing the “red” focused like voter registration or collaborate with silvershirts

You can get 1 point if you already have 1 point and have 30% fascism support. So in of itself having 30% fascist support won’t start the war

I thought from the wiki that you only need to be at war to trigger the event asking whether to recall MacArthur from the front lines or not? It reads like you either need to say yes at this decision, or to be at peace. Does MacArthur not run for president if at peace?
