Getting consumption despite disease not being in the capital province?

I'm playing a game right now where I happen to hold two provinces as my personal demesne in the duchy of Kent in southeast England but my capital is somewhere further away towards Scotland.

Consumption has spread in Kent but it is definitely not in my capital where my character resides and I cannot make the "close the gates" decision either. My character also did not lead armies in those areas. So how come he gets infected by the disease all the time? I've reloaded like three times and sooner or later he always gets it, how is this possible?

Only thing I can even remotely think of is that I may have had a commander down there some time ago with the disease still rampant there but I don't see any commander or for that matter anyone with the disease in my court.

Oh okay... what can I do against it then? Execute all my rivals and everyone who looks at me funny while hoping the culprit is among the victims?

Put your Court Chaplain on hunting heretics duty. Use the Intrigue focus on likely suspects (look for people who are Possessed, Impaler, Hunchbacked, etc - the negative traits that tend to come from devil worship). If you join the Hermetics there is a chance for a random event to fire which can improve your odds of protecting against disease. Choose to use all your ingredients - the protection is massive.

Alternatively, join the society yourself. You will be able to see every single member.

Simple - your Castellan or Major Domo went south to check in on your southern holdings and when he came back to report to you he sneezed and you caught it.

There would be hundreds if not thousands of interactions with your southern realms every month that could be a vector for disease, from the coins paid in tax to the grain paid in tribute to you.

I see zero issue here.
