What is it with people and using invalid arguments...

You cannot order from the Paradox Plaza webshop without having seen the forum link clearly labelled in the navigation bar on the top at least once. So that's the first part of your argument torn to pieces.

Paradox IS at fault for not correcting the pre-order emails by now (and I'll agree with you on that one - it should have been fixed by now with at least some five daily threads on the subject)

Via email? Purely opinion - They have chosen to conduct their support in a manner, which is almost industry standard these days.

Btw cognratulatiosn you fit perfectly intot he msot hated forum user:

You've seen this guy before, and he's a fixture in every forum community, not just the pre-release flavor. He's the one who gets his undies bunched when a newly registered forumite doesn't take six hours to page through 15,000 posts to make sure his question hasn't already been asked. Because, frankly, asking a question that has already been asked is just inexcusable. It's the worst kind of criminal behavior imaginable, on par with child molesting and talking at the theater, in fact.

And woe be unto the rookie who doesn't study the stickies posts and study them hard, says this particular guy. My goodness, forum space is at a premium, you see, and games like Star Citizen run out of it quite quickly when users ask repeat questions. The no-repeat-questions guy has a lot of time on his hands, and in addition to spending way too much of it on his favorite pre-release boards, he's also prone to peppering them with threads of critical importance featuring titles like REQUIRED READING!!11!!!1! and ALL NEWBS HERE THIS!!

A valid series of questions, to which there isn't really any other answer than what you just said yourself - to support the developer. There are no "physical" benefits anymore to pre-ordering this particular title from the Plaza.

Dear OP, in your case, my main worry would be that if Paradox goes bankrupt in the next two weeks you will never ever ever receive your code and get to play EU4. The best you can do is watch all the rest of us playing and doing letsplays on Youtube just to show that we have EU4 and you dont. So please, keep Paradox running, since every additional title you buy ensures that the company will make it until release date and you will get your chance to do a world conquest with Ulm.

Same difference - No key of any kind was/is intended to be released to anyone before the release day.

Oh. Granted, I've only ever pre-ordered once before, so my sample size is a bit low, but last time I got the Steam key in advance. Here's hoping Gamers Gate doesn't go belly up until after release!

The search tool reaps great benefits - Johan and the other devs have responded to the question several times, promising everyone their keys by release.

I think you have already answered your own question. The only "benefit" is that you support the company directly. However, I do not understand why you think there is some delay you will inevitably experience? The Steam purchase does automatically place the pre-order in your library but the game is not downloaded or installed. You still have to wait. The 10% discount you can get from other vendors is a more real concern, but that was available when you chose to purchase from Paradox, so presumably you saw supporting Paradox as more important than $3.99 (4.49 for the deluxe) off?

There is a delay. Let's say Steam unlocks the game right at the top of the hour, same time as when all the other sites email out the keys. Let's assume for this scenario, there are no pre-loads and everyone's internet connection is on par with each other. Right at release, Steam pre-orders would be able to download the game immediately while the others would need to access their emails, copy the key, paste it into Steam, and then begin the download. That's like a whole half minute there. That means people who pre-order from Steam would get to play the game a whole half minute early than the others! It may not seem like much, but at the max speed that's like a month of in-game time! ONE WHOLE MONTH! So the game runs for what, 377 years! That's 4,524 months! If you pre-order the game from Steam, you would have already experienced 0.022104332% of the game before everybody else!!!

I, for one, would love for a representative to answer the concern that someone who pre-orders from Steam directly gets to experience 0.022104332% of the game before everybody else! How is that fair?!

I added one more assumption for completeness. Other than that, well, consider me a convert. If all keys are e-mailed exactly when Steam allows downloads to begin, and all other assumptions hold, we unhappy fools who purchased outside of Steam are totally screwed for 30 seconds.
