Adshead is a fairly dull name. It's either taken from the Cheshire hamlet of Adswood or simply means "head of an adze". The attempts of some to link it to Saint Patrick - based on a nickname in the fenian cycle - or Insular christianity as a whole are easily dismissed. It's first written mention comes from the late sixteenth century, in a largely protestant neck of the woods several hundred years after Latin monastic practices replaced Celtic ones. But my grandfather would feel afronted if I didn't mention his maternal ancestors; the Boothes, Bowers, and Boswells. Petty industrialists and landholders. As such, I hereby conjure House Botherell. A Middle English perversion of the Norman de Baudreville. Alternative spellings; Botherbill, Bathewell, and Bovril.
My grandfather's name was William, a well groomed chap with a passion for yeast-based spreads. Probably.
