Batista,

My family descends directly from John the Baptist, the cousin of Jesus Christ. We battled alongside D. Afonso Henriques, "O Conquistador", where my ancestor got smashed in the face by a mace, in order to save the king, his son and got comissioned for his father heroism and eventually my family received the title of Duke and with our new lands we builded one of the most ancient riches of Portugal, we created the Secret "Ordem dos Maços Esmagadores".

In the seventh century when the Angles Saxons and Jutes made their way west to the lands of the Britons, amongst the various tribes that settled in the area that would become the Kingdom of Deira

In proud and loyal service to thy were petty nobles & lords of the hill forts, guarding the local farmers and fishermen on the villages south of the Humber river.

As times goes on they adopted the nick name of the "Cructun" which had evolved to "Critten" by the time of the Norman invasions the Crittens stood ready top hold off the Foreign invaders for Harold Godwinson

Sprague

Sprague

My family has been traced to about 1576 with Edward Sprague in Upwey England.
http://www.sprague-database.org/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I35854&tree=SpragueProject
My line: Edward, William, John, Ebenezer, Daniel, Ebenezer, Stephen, Alpheus, Solomon, Silas, My grandfather and Father.

We have fought in all the major wars in some capacity since 1576. Were we nobles or kings? No. Unfortunately, the family tree get very hazy in the 1500's, so maybe in Crusader Kings 2 I will be able to discover that lost history. I am the 13th great-grandson of Edward Sprague.

Buckingham

yup that's right my family name is Buckingham

the names origins are Saxon. Location name called either from Bucen, beechen, and ham, a village, from the abundance of beech-trees growing there, or from the Saxon bucca, deer--the deer-village. Also the British royal family's residence is Buckingham Palace, there is also Buckingham shire. My family name can be traced back to the Domesday book, the records of the 1086 Domesday survey

Luoto

The name means cliff, and the proud members of the Luoto (means cliff) clan have always been influential in Western Finland. They are staunch pagans and try to fight the Catholic influences. The Swedish feared the armies of the "Cliff", since they knew they could stand against any enemy. However the relationship between the Luotos and the Swedes weren't always hostile. The Luoto men often married the beautiful blond daughters of the Swedish settlers in the archipelago. After the Swedish conquest of Western Finland they moved north and later generations actually converted to Christianity. In the 1300s, the Luotos made many trade expeditions to the Saami in the north where they bought reindeer skin which they sold to merchants in the south. During the 1500s they had risen to become a part of the elite, and adopted Swedish as their language. They were now called von Klippa and the family owned several small estated throughout Finland and Sweden. After 1809 those parts of the Clan that had estated in the West remained Swedish citizens, while the von Klippas in the East rediscovered their Finnish roots and took the name Luoto. Some Luotos also moved to Estonia where they became known for fighting in the Estonian resistance against the Soviet occupation after WW2.

Kysh (Been shortened, nobody in the family can agree exactly what from)
I'm from England, however it originates in Ukraine (going further back, could even be Russia), my great grandfather was Ukrainian who came to England as a naval captain to fight in world war II.
Sadly without knowing what the full name is, it's hard to go back further than my Great Grandfather. He changed to his surname to Kysh (presumably for a new start, and because the English are terrible at pronouncing foreign languages lol)

As my surname is too recent for CK 2 (first appearance in 1700) I choose my great grandfather surname.

Grimoldi

Today is a typical Lombard surname, this surname is prominent in the provinces of Milano, Como and Varese but it back its origins from the longobardic proper name Grîmwald which mean "powerful with helm" or better "chief with helm" from Grima «helm» and Waldaz «powerful/chief»; one of the Longobards king was Grimoaldo, during the centuries Grimoaldo was transformed in Grimoldo and Grimaldo as two proper names, afterwards it was definitively transformed in two surnames as Grimoldi and Grimaldi.

The rise of Gallistl
Not much is known about the history of the Gallistl. It is said that the great-grandfather (Heinrich Gallistl) of the current count was a son of a farmer.
One hundred years ago, during the invasion of the Saracen in south Italy the Emperor asked his noblemen to join the fight and to defend the realm. Therefore Otto I, Duke of Swabia and Bavaria raised an army. Since Heinrich was a younger son he had no chance to inherent the family farm, so he decided to seek his destiny in the army.
Unfortunately the campaign against the invaders was a complete failure. The liege of Heinrich was killed and the emperor was captured. Nevertheless Heinrich proofed his value; he saved the emperors life and joined him into custody. After the Emperor was released, he rewarded Heinrich, making him chief of the watch in one of the garrisons in Bavaria.
In the following years Heinrich married Anna, daughter of the local bailiff and both had 5 kids.
For the next two generations the family members served the duke as chiefs of the watch, treasurers and so on, improving their position as courtiers of the dukes of Bavaria.
The current head of the family, Bernhard I, Marshal of the Bavarian armies, a close friend of Henry IV, was appointed a few years ago (~1062) as count in one of the lesser important shires of Bavaria to restore order and making it again a valuable part of Bavaria.
From this day on, Bernhard tries to increase the influence of his shire and to conquer new land for his family, following the motto of the family: Faber est suae quisque fortunae (Every man is the maker of his own fortune)

Region: Bavaria (now Austria)
Familyname: Gallistl

Wetzel

Taking from houseofnames.com,
[01], [02]
Originating in Silesia and Bohemia as 'Weczel', the family was one of mostly minor nobles, though contributing greatly with diplomatic skill and guile to shaping the feudal society and early development of Bohemia.

Apparently, at least. I wonder how exactly the name spread to Prussia and Kiel, where my father is from.

Hello,

I am a distant member of the branch of the "West" Family. We are a long-standing English line. (My Name being Thomas West England)

The West Family originated somewhere in the Western part of Europe, the exact location is unknown. However the Wests' were believed to have been Dane's as the region in England they primarily inhabited were heavily populated by Danish immigrants/invaders. The West Family line originated somewhere in the Sibsey region of England. Some of the West family were nobles in the 14th century, mentioned in dispatches from the Lay of Lincolnshire. They were specifically known for opposing the expansion of religious institutions (not due to belief, but rather simple economics). The West family apparently lost it's conflict with the early churches, and all their land eventually became Church property.

I believe the West family would make an excellent addition to the lands of Denmark/England in the start of the game. I would like to lead my ancestors to their proper place in the world, the Kingdom of England.

Cavaletto, lombard. The cavaletto family is noble family with little power and almost no lands. It founds its birthplace in the XIV century aprox. in venetia. Somwhere around the XVI century some of them moved to Pavia. There one of them get some renown and a church was built in his honor, he was Michele (Michael) Cavaletto and the church can still be found in Besignano. In late XIX My Great Greatgrandfather moved with his brother to Argentina and started working in the National Railway Company, their descendants worked there as well (exept for my and my mother).

Agosto

This family name has some history to it which dates back to Italian renaissance.
There was a young man, a great great great (etc) grand relative of mine, Antonio, that took part
in a revenge scheme (too trivial for history, but significant enough to be told by our family) in
a small town in Friuli, a region in Northern Italy. A friend of his by the name of Renato Furlan.
sought revenge for the death of his sister by the hands of a nobleman - a dishonest case of eloping
and then a neglectful and rather violent relationship. The scheme was the assassination of the nobleman
by the hands of both Antonio and Renato, where they both assailed the nobleman and killed him with
swords on the steps of the town church.
They both had to flee the town and that's where my branch of the family began.
The name Agosto came from the month that the killing took place (August) and was the name used
in the town.
The name has lived on and we Agosto's have been peaceful ever since.

Hackemesser
The background of this family has been lost during the 30 years war, the oldest ancestor we could look up is Curth Hackemesser who was born 1662 in a town close to Wittenberg in middle Germany. The family was working as farmers during the 17th and 18th century.

Willis

The story of my great-great-great-grandfather played out much like those old Age of Sail movies. As a simple (but wealthy) private merchant, Henry Willis of Liverpool, signed his ship with the East Indian Company. Inspired by tales of the even more wealth across the seas (to the land of tea and the Middle Kingdom), Henry sailed halfway across the world and winds up in a small port city called Hong Kong (Fragrant Harbour). Once he was on shore, a local lady catches his attention. He beds her, and then marries her. Henry sells his ship, and pledges much of his wealth as dowry to the lady's family.
The Willis Family Line continues even today. With each generation, the children married with the local Chinese population. By the 1960s, no offspring in the Willis Family Line looked White. By the 1980s, a child only had very little British Blood and his hair colour was completely black (as compared to light brown) by the age of eleven. As such, the Willis Family officially changed its last name to a more Chinese Family Name: "Wai".
