Well, I hope I am not too late, otherwise I will learn not to procrastinate next time. I couldn't get the images to display at the right size, so please be kind and click them to see their full size. I played with the Pop of Darkness mod, and the Freedom and Chains submod (which is excellent, congratulations to Five_X!)
Look away!
A tale of the south.

In 1863,war was ending. The civil wars to end all civil wars were over. The first American Civil War ended with a ceasefire, followed by five years of uneasy peace, and a second attempt of reunification. After an even bloodier struggle, the Union was once again barely defeated. President Lincoln was forced to sign the Second Declaration of Independence, recognizing the Confederacy as an independent country. While the European Powers condemned the Confederate practice of slavery, an intervention did not seem feasible, and they too recognized the South's independence.
During the following decade, the Confederation had as an objective the modernization of the country, in order to compete with the Union. But, alas, peace did not last. In 1874, a defeated Mexico saw in the newborn Confederation a ripe target to recover it's once territories. Soldiers crossed the borders in Texas, seeking to reclaim the state. The still injured Confederate army did not have much advantages. Both sides avoided major engagements. The South's navy proved crucial, blockading the Mexican coastline. When it was clear that Mexico had no hope of winning an draw out conflict, it's president backed down. Peace was accepted, on the condition that California became independent as an special state of the Confederation.

After the war, an influential group rose to power, The Knight of the Golden Circle. In their agenda was expansionism towards Latin America, in order to strengthen slavery and the rich plantations owners. The capital would be moved to Havana, in Cuba, an all areas in the large Golden Circle would eventually be annexed by the Confederation. Mexico accepted to sell the provinces of Chihuahua and Sonora for a large sum of gold, granting the CSA ports in the Pacific.

Spain agreed to sell Cuba and Puerto Rico, since it was verging on bankruptcy, and knew that defending the colonies against an attack would be futile. The ruling elites in Haiti, deeply connected with those in the CSA, applied for statehood, which was granted. The Confederation was finally recognized as one of the leading powers in the world, and it was chosen to host the 1884's World Fair!

Despite a murder case which shocked the world, the World Fair amazed the world. The greatest attraction was the city of Havana itself, at the time the most modern in the world, completely refurbished to seat the Confederate government.

Confederate expansion in Central America went on, despite Dutch involvement. CSA's navy once again won the day. The dutch transferred it's Antilles islands to the Confederation, together with a port in Africa, which would soon prove to be of great importance.
Soon, work would begin on the CSA's greatest project, a canal linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, to be built in Panama. Sadly, the Confederation's greatest hero died before he could see the opening of the canal. Robert E. Lee passed away, weeping thousands went to his funeral to give goodbye to the man who gave Dixie it's freedom from the Yankees.

With the canal open, the world once again basked in the glory of the South. It was now clear that the Confederation was a modern and developed country, not just a group who exploited slave labor.
Practice that was netting more repercussions with each passing day in Europe. The Great Powers decided to "guide and protect" Africans against the Dixie slave traders. The CSA refused to beeft out of Africa, and so the Scramble began. It occurred civilizedly, an no conflicts were born. Dixieland once again showed it's superiority, securing the largest slice of Africa. The new colonies proved vital to the economy, supplying the CSA with materials and *ahem* workers.

With it's presence in Africa secure, the Confederation looked once again to America. It was decided that Guatemala and parts of Mexico were ready to join the CSA, by force, if necessary. The French did not accept the CSA's expansion, and declared hostility. Dixie ships managed to put up a fight, but at a great cost. French navy was much more modern an numerous. Only Dixie bravery held the line, although the country became rife with debt and unemployment. In this scenario socialist were elected with promises of change. The situation in Europe was heating up, and the French moved away it's attention from the Caribean, swinging the war in the Confederation's favor. If a war really broke out against Germany, France certainly would prefer the CSA to be neutral in such conflict. In consequence, France accepted the annexation of Guatemala, and peace was restored between the two nations.
The twentieth century dawned, and a new world with it. Changes in the economy seemed clear. Industry was the future, and Cotton no longer was king. The socialist government, opting for a direct advancement, took a great step. All slaves were freed and great efforts were taken to modernize the country. In this new century, would the sun of equality shine in America, or would it be engulfed in Darkness?
