Hi everyone,
I began as duke of Damietta and became the Tulunid Sultan (Egypt, Old gods start). During my time as Sultan, I vassalized the Mamluks by landing them (I gave them Gizah county).
My final objective was to found the Damietta Republic (with the founder of the republic mod to go from feudal to MR) as kingdom tier but keep the Tulunid Sultanate as a neighbouring state from my dynasty (I don't care about half of the de jure territory of Egypt and East Africa). I took the first opportunity to give up the sultanate to my nephew, took my independance (and had a succession during the war), created the kingdom of Damietta and converted to Republic.

Now there is only one thing which annoys me. I would like to take back the Mamluks. I reconquered Gizah but this did not vassalized them since my claim was on c_gizah and not the mercenary company's duchy title. Even tho they are not landed anymore, they are still vassals of the Tulunid Sultanate

Do I have some options to get a claim on the Mamluks' duchy title or get them into my king-tier MR?

OK, just to update the situation. I took a previous save just before my war for Gizah and I will wait to take back this county. So now, the Mamluks are helding Gizah as vassals of the Tulinid Sultanate. I hope this opens more possibilities to take them back.

I also checked whether there are claimants to the Mamluks' title and there are not. How can I make them have claimants for their title?

Do you have claim on Egypt? Take it back, then give it away again. Do not usurp it, claim it in war. Mamluks should then remain with you as long as you have another kingdom like Damietta.

I would also take Gizah away from them for good measure.

Edit: I'd say this only works if Egypt is their only kingdom.

Wow, this seems like a good idea, thanks ^^
I should be able to claim Egypt (hope the Tulunid Sultanate will not create the east african kingdom by the time I claim Egypt). This isn't that simple to I only got weak claims. But it should also be possible to get this claim through marriage I guess.

At least I have hard time to get other than weak claims while playing as muslim. My solution for that is manoeuver a minor on throne, then press weak claim against him.

I managed to retake the Tulunid sultanate (so that I got two kingdom titles). I pressed a weak claim by making the Sultan go into hiding. The problem was that I could not keep my custom kingdom (Most serene republic Damietta) and give back Egypt kingdom. So I had to create the kingdom of Nubia, give it to the former Sultan so that he have almost all the land he had (except Sinai, but I'll give his independence to this duke), and finally destroy Egypt kingdom.

The problem is that I lost the name of my realm on the map (Damietta) and it is now called Tulunid. But I think I will edit the save file; I hope I will find my kingdom in it.
(I know it is a detail but I want it; not my dynasty's name... So I'll do whatever I have to do ^_^ )

Well, the Mamluks are back so mission accomplished, thanks Rascal Capac.

You could return to an old save, and before you get rid of Egypt, grant the Mamlukes independence.

Then give Egypt to a relative, make your MR Kingdom, and vassalise the Mamlukes.

Would this work? If they don't accept peaceful vassalization, I'm not sure conquering the Giza county will vassalize them since their duchy title is not tied to any counties. But maybe it would work I dunno. I'm not sure I got a save that far tho.

Since I don't find what to modify in the save file, I'm leaning toward creating Nubia kingdom then creating a custom empire (with custom Damieta, Egypt and Nubia kingdoms). With the empire I should be able to just give Egypt and Nubia... But not sure I will be able to take back the proper name; I guess the Empire itself will be called Tulunid on the map :/

If you have the Customization Pack, you could just rename your dynasty to Damietta.

Ye this is a solution I may consider if I don't have any other option. Thanks for the suggestion. It is a matter of choice between having a realm separate from the dynasty (since I will not be the only Tulunid realm when my shit will be over; there will be at least Egypt/Nubia and maybe Sinai), and having a nicer name on the map (but having to make every Tulunid realms share a name tied to a geographical origin they don't have.

Is there a console command to change the name of a realm (on the map, since I my title is already called Most Serene Republic of Damietta, but its adjective, which I cannot modify, is Tulunid).

Well, if you are willing to change your culture, you can do that with a console command.

However, another possibility is taking the cultures file and removing "dynasty_title_names = yes" from whatever culture you have.

I will try the "dynasty_title_names" thing. Thanks.
If it does not work, I consider just going back before I reconquered the Tulinid Sultanate, conquer all the land of the Sultan in order to destroy the Egypt title so that the Mamluks are freed. It will occupy me at least one hundred years but meh; I am Shia', they are Sunni.

Ok, I understood the culture part of Zharliette's post the wrong way. Now this is clearer, thanks. I hadn't realized that it was because of the culture (first game as muslim).
I don't know what I will do yet... It would be nice to get a Khazar, Cuman or Turkic culture later. I'll see for my next instance in this playthrough.
