Hello, and welcome to the first real beta AAR for Darkest Hour!

As you forum members chose in a poll several months ago, this after action report will feature the German Empire in the first World War.

The Great War was a war that eventually shaped the world, allowed technological inventions and resulted in millions of deaths.

The war was the result of several political disagreements, border disputes and local conflicts. Even though the war finally came off as a surprise for many people, the increased tensions could be seen years before the war. A conflict had occurred almost every year before 1914: the Italo-Turkish war in 1911, the first Balkan war in 1912, the second Balkan War in 1913... it was only a matter of time when a new war would begin. All that was needed was an event acting as a trigger.

In June 1914, the Austro-Hungarian crown prince was assassinated in Sarajevo. All of Europe was holding their breath, for this was the event everyone had feared for.

The threat of war started big changes in the German economic system and military machine. Among the first changes to foreign trade was the order to stockpile both fuel and supplies; these would eventually be needed by our constantly growing army.

(Note the ah-so-awesome mouse pointer in that picture)

The research teams, too, were adjusted to suit our increasing demand for more advanced equipment. One of our teams was also looking for more ways to improve armored cars, possibly so much that we are able to develop tanks.

The new changes were direly needed, as our resource stockpiles were not nearly as full as they could be. Hopefully our supply situation will improve with our new trade deals and increased input to the supply production.

As July arrived, the German forces were ordered to more suitable positions along the borders. To increase our capabilities and to ensure a successful plan to take out France in case of a war, the intelligence network in France was ordered to capture important industrial documents as well as sabotage their industrial complexes.

When Austria-Hungary sent an ultimatum to Serbia in the early days of July, all Europe could do was wait.

And so it begins. The next update will cover all the wonderful events leading to the outbreak of war, and after that, the real fun begins.

I don't have time to update today anymore, but I'll update at least two times tomorrow.

Subscribed. It will be interesting to see how the WWI is represented in DH.

What is "Industrial espionage"? Is it the old "Steal blueprint" option? Does it have any other effects?

Does "Auto-reply to single offers" mean that friendly AI countries will give us resources when we need them and they have some to spare?

Yes.

IIRC (sorry, but it feels like there have been ages since I worked on that feature) this is used when allied nations offer to players resources or BPs.

This is relevant to my interests.

its tommorow, when comes the update!?

It's tomorrow... such an illogical sentence.
However, the update is here.

Chapter II: July Crisis

The July Crisis was a series of political maneuvers succeeding the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. During the month, Austria-Hungary sent an ultimatum to Serbia accusing that Belgrade had equipped the assassin and supported the attack. The ultimatum was extremely harsh; Austria-Hungary had decided that it would achieve its goal either through diplomacy or through war. When the ultimatum was delivered, Russia promised to protect Serbia.

It was now clear that war preparations should be started. As much industrial capacity was put to upgrading and reinforcing the German army as possible. Some of our troops still hadn't reached their ordered positions, and things were heating up. Some weeks later, the ultimatum sent by Austria-Hungary expired, and Serbia delivered its response.

Austria-Hungary had issued 10 extremely hard demands. Serbia only agreed to 8 of them. This was not enough for Austria-Hungary, and it didn't take much time before Austria-Hungary delivered their kind of response. That response was an all-out war.

Russia, as they promised, mobilized their armies. Our military command decided to send an ultimatum to Russia, threatening with war unless they demobilize and stop their attacks against Austria-Hungary. However:

Once all of our soldiers were in positions and Russia had shown their uncooperativeness, all we could do is respond and hope for the best with the French and British.

War will be over before Christmas :D

Then attack now while they are still disorganised and the southern Polish territories can be grabbed easily. You should be able to create a solid frontline and it's always better with AH's divs than without them.
