Chapter XV: The Battle of Evreux
After Paris had fallen, our troops pushed even further into French territory. The city of Caen was taken around the 10th of April. Our troops would now attempts to encircle enemy units in Evreux, dealing a crushing blow.
As the battles raged on, new troops were trained. A total of 6 divisions were sent to the western front. They didn't make it to the grand battle of Evreux, though:
This would be a long and bloody battle. It began in mid-April, and would most likely continue at least a month.
A month would not be so bad, were it not for the fact that our people were getting unhappy with the prolonged war. The Kaiser had not delivered his promises, our troops were still fighting and dying. The home front was getting restless.
The situation could not be improved by boasting with our successes - at least in the naval sector. Our fleet failed to repel a combined enemy attack (Italy, UK and France had united their forces) in the battle of Scheldt Estuary on the 3rd of May, and some French divisions landed in Dunkirk. Fortunately our coastal guard managed to weaken them.
The battle of Evreux continued. French forces have made landings - still small, but they could be reinforced as our navy was regaining strenght. Dissent is growing. All we could now do was wait and hope for a successful battle of Evreux.
-------------
So, this update showed several new things that DH features:
1. Dissent-giving events when important cities (not just VP areas) are lost.
2. Prolonged war has its consequences now.
3. Even after the capital is lost, the battles last for a considerable time (the encirclement of Evreux took over a month, and it was pure luck that the French didn't pull out quickly enough).
