Sooo ...

Anyone seen Germany beat the Soviets in the current 1.9.2 build?

I just see them smash themselves to death against the Red Bear every single time ... EvErY TiMe ... tested +10 games

Sometimes they manage to move in a few states but stall really quickly and then it's a slow retreat back to Berlin ...

I see soviets with up to 20 tank divisions by 1941 while germany sometimes doesn't even have 5 ... (once I even saw them with infantry only lol, got them the furthest too surprisingly)

Japan is also a mixed bag in this build. Quite often now gets pushed out of Asia entirely by 1940-1942. Sometimes goes through horrendous grinding against China to beat it by 1945ish, it really depends if it can get a proper naval landing going ...

I think it's hilarious how germany now is weak sauce compared to how it was before where it practically always won. It used to just outproduce the soviets in military equipment before but now it doesn't nearly get the same amount of factories as it did before and suffers quite badly under the current balance and doesn't seem strong enough by itself.

While it doesn't really bother me as much as a germany always winning before, it does make it harder for some scenarios if you are a fellow axis nation in single player and you're banking on your NPC germany to pull its weight ... which it doesn't really do anymore ... it just pisses off the giant bear ...

In my current game, historical focuses, in 1944, Germany has pushed USSR back to the Urals together with the normal coalition, but not collapsed yet. I’m communist Canada and trying to just strat bomb and nuke Germany, but it looks like it’s not heping much...

China survived and made a white peace with Japan, but Japan avenged the “defeat” and has conquered Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. I don’t see US doing much of anything, though.

What DLC do you have? I wonder how much that makes a difference. I haven't played much recently and wanted to see how the AI did in the latest patch before I bought more. What I am seeing is that Germany gets closeish to historical frontlines in 1941 mostly due to the Soviets forgetting to man the Finnish or Romanian front and then overcorrecting. The front stays there until around 44 or 45 when the Soviets run out of gas and break.

I am also having problems with AI Germany.

First I had a game as the Soviets and Germany took a long time to capitulate France and it also failed to conquer greece due to english troops there. Then they invaded me ... and they couldn't even get to my line of forts near Kharkov... and they had only 3 tank divisions.

Now I am playing Italy-veteran, and AI Germany started ww2 in december 1939 because it hadn't enough manpower to make the focuses before and it can't capitulate France. I already took the eastern half of southern France up to the river line, but I didn't really think I would have to make all the work myself.

I wonder if it is an aberration and I should restart or what...

Yes. Also had that in the my past 2 playthroughs where I didn't play Germany myself.

And they also only ever used Infantry units against the Soviets which made me laugh. The few tank divisions they had were scattered all over Africa helping out Italy or something instead of actually relocating to the Soviet front and focusing on their own war. Real bad AI management there.

They start the war in June 1941 or something and yet in March 1942 they still didn't manage to push the Soviets beyond the Neman river (pretty much the border between Eastern Poland/Lithuania)... and in the south the Romanians almost immediately lost on the entire front and had to retreat. They were totally incapable of pushing through to Minsk/Kiev... something I would manage do within the first 1-2 weeks of conquest if I play as Germany and if not I would immediately deem it a failed attempt and reload a pre-war savegame.

I mean yeah, historically they are supposed to lose... but not immediately.

From my latest 1.92 non LR historical focuses (supposedly on, didn't quite seem like it) play through:

USSR declared war on Germany in '40, UK naval invaded and capitulated Italy in '41. By '42 Germany defeated France and liberated Italy, then defeated the SU in '44. US stayed out of the Allies and provided no LL. Germany still seems as ahistorically powerful as ever considering they fought and won in a three front war without major allies.
