So, Many other WWII strategy games reward going for your Axis "brother" over other nations. So if you are Germany, take the path pre invasion of poland, then murder Italy. Italy should murder Austria asap, then continue on into Germany.

Germany gets the resources from the italian colonies that it really needs, plus a bunch of naval power it has none of. Italy gets industrial power, and resources. Bonus points if you can preserve the german unit/tech development as Italy since their historical units are garbage past what? 1933?. France and the rest all sit back and cheer you on vs getting ready to go to war themselves.

So, will this stratagy be rewarded in HoI IV? Will the democracies sit back and cheer as the Facists eat each other? Will the communists also stay unconcerned?

it would raise world tension quite a lot for a major to eat another major. probably right up to 100% even if it was at 0. This will let democracies re-arm, make guarantees, send volunteers, lend lease (including the arsenal of democracy).

Italy and Germany are also separated by geography (mountains between them), have a neutral nation between them that would raise world tension to take (or you have to go all the way around), and both have fairly good starting military ability - given that they are both the same overall government type. Also, making a claim will be faster than taking the historical options, I would imagine.

So I could see it working to do this, but it certainly doesn't sound like it would be ideal, when you can instead play your cards right and have a good ally in either case, allowing you to focus on other conquests against significantly easier to conquer enemies in the nearby region.

Edit: I mean, if you can attack a nation that is currently at war with another faction that certainly will always be good, as it will stretch their forces thin.

I sorta hope that in the future, if not already implemented, that declaring war on a nation that is already at war with somebody else (and when not on the side of the person they are at war with, obviously) will increase world tension significantly more. I can't see any nation seeing it as acceptable practice for you to suddenly invade a nation in an opportunistic fashion, rather than say making a claim and attacking them in a more straight-forward manner.

If this was to happen historically
The Italians wouldn't have lasted a single day :p
Anyways on to the game
As @Number 7 said a conflict between two majors is going to raise the world tension but I'm guessing not directly to 100% ?
Sure if there is a sino- Japanese war already going on then it would rise to 100
Just guessing :D

This leads to another question asked in another thread by another person :
What happens to a nations NAVY after they capitulate ? o_O
So if Germany EATS Italy ( like pasta ) what happens to the Italian navy ?
If it is possible to use it as a part of the kriegsmarine then Germany will have an easy time fighting the English ( atleast in the Mediterranean)
EDIT: typing on my phone and this friggin autocorrect is getting on my nerves  please forgive any mistakes

Assuming it's 1939 and Italy attacks Germany for attacking Poland, the Allies are probably gonna declare war on Italy once they eat Germany.

I was thinking Italy would take Austria pre- Anschluss, then continue north as soon as possible. pre-1939 Italy is in a good place compared to pre 1939 Germany. Sooner the better.
Germany would take whatever "free" things are scripted into the game, like Anschluss, while avoiding Poland. Poland in most games is hard coded to be a trigger for France/Britain. World War Wednesday Hungry play shows that the allies definitely aren't going to let Poland slide regardless.

Is taking Austria pre-Anschluss or whatever even a good idea? I remember from the Hungary Games WWW streams that if you take over a country that has regions that other nations have a claim on, those other nations still very well may choose to claim them for their own. That means that taking Austria might just have Germany declare war on you instead, or at least that is how things should ideally happen. I'm wondering how it would actually play out though, as it depends on the code.

It could work, of course, but it seems like it would potentially backfire to do such an early invasion.

During one of the Office MPs Johan (Italy) tried to backstab Daniel (Germany. It didnt really turned out so well and Johan moved to lybia instead. :D That was pretty long ago tho and the balancing obviously has changed since then.

I guess joining Comintern to help Romania against the Axis was not my brighest idea in yesterdays MP test.
