Hey there guys, I was looking all over the place, used the search feature to find proper germany guides, but all I find is how to win against the AI - which is probably the easiest thing to do.

Multiplayer, on the other hand, is very difficult to win, especially when you're as big as germany. I've played in a match with a lot of players playing with majors and my question is, how do I win against the French? I can't seem to take them out, I slowly grind them but it's 1942'ish by the time I do it and Murica and Rossyija can completely destroy me on their own.

What are some advanced strategies on Germany? No cheating or so fort, essentially a game with proper rules, somewhat historical and so on, no fabrications until 100% tension.

Thanks, look forward to reading if anyone has the knowledge on how to take out France by at least 41.

Note: I've over 500 hours and still going on the game.

1. Politics: Everyone seems to overlook this when playing Germany. There are two important notes here. World Tension must sit below 25% for as long as possible. At 25%, France/UK can start guaranteeing nations and you can't really begin the war without running into a nation guaranteed by the Allies. If you can't collaborate with Italy and Japan then you're kind of out of luck, unfortunately. A good example: if Japan declares war on Shanxi and China, then World Tension usually starts spiraling out of control very fast.

2. House Rules: It's super upsetting that Paradox still hasn't gotten the jump on this, but if France builds level 10 forts on the Belgian border and has UK helping them defend, you lose. I've been on both sides. This rule is generally present that you can only build up to Level 5, but without it, if France DOES go this right they are damn near impenetrable.

3. Military: Utilizing your planning bonus and maintaining air superiority is super important. Your army will generally be larger, faster and better equipped. Without air superiority however your victories can much less faster.

It's a bit more indepth than that, but playing Germany is probably the toughest nation to get right in Multiplayer.

Yes, I'm aware of controlling world tension and house rules are also very important - level 10 forts are doable, as Germany I always invest in fighters/strategic bombers and I reduce even the maginot line to 0. Unless France keeps repairing them my tanks will go through them.

I've played a decent ~100 hours as Germany in MP, I've somewhat gotten the composition of how many of what I'll be able to maintain, but never how many I'll require - the templates are also another point I'm yet to figure out, specifically for France - Do I go for 20width or 40 width just twice as less inf divisions or do I have both.

Usually I go for 100 inf, 20 l.tank 20 m.tank +10 motorized +20 art inf and rest goes into defending provinces like coast.

I've won quite a lot against players as Germany, but my friend plays France every time and he's gotten really good, I can't beat him anymore especially when there's a good Brit.

You need to play in lobbies with fixed rules, no facist commonwealth bullshit. Or democratic Hungary. You need to have a decent amount of cas and even more fighters. I have almost 2000 hours in multiplayer and meta changes almost everyday In lobbies that are innovative and good players. You need to look at USA, uk, Austrialia/Canada plane count and be above it. You need to control your minors, including Italy. You need to build up planning bonus delete battleplan and attack using micro. The S and B keys are important as hell. Use them as much as you can. I use s so much me s key is fucked lol. With your hours you should not be playing Germany in a competitive lobby. A good nation would be Romania or china. They good nations to learn micro. Then I suggest Hungary for plane management. For me vanilla multiplayer is cancerous so I play in a mod called pfu. If you interested in learning and getting better ask and I'll give you discord code if you play with us.

PS 40 width tanks are always the way. There are arguments for 20 or 40 width infantry. Generally i go towards 44 width with offensive field marshals. Generally I go 40 width tanks tanks 15/5. If France is going heavy tanks I make tank destroyers. If France is trying heavy infantry no arty bullshit just build spgs in tanks. In vanilla you can get panthers before war easily as well as fighter 3 from Hungary or Italy. There very little allies can do about that early game.

We never play with a human France, so I can't help you against a human France.

I concur with the others about keeping WT low. I will also say that the Axis majors really need to work together with regards to research, licenses, and joint operations against the Allies.

Example: Earlier this week, I (the UK) lost 75 DDs, 5 CAs, 3 BBs, and a few CLs against a smaller Italian fleet in the western Med. Why? Because Germany and the Italians moved all their aircraft to Spanish, French, and Italian airbases within range of the battle. The RAF did the best it could, but I didn't have the air bases to beat back both the Luftwaffe and Regia Aeronautica at the same time.

I was not happy, but I have to give credit where credit was due. The Germans didn't hang the Italians out to dry, but backed them up at the crucial naval battle of the war. (I will have my revenge, I assure you. And that revenge is... building aircraft with Italian oil I captured in Libya.)

MP is far from being only one thing. Many different strategies are either good or bad depending on the house rules and the pace of the game.

One I have seen recently was for the German to switch from Mobile Warfare to Grand Battle Plan. Be sure to take GPB far enough to get max planning bonus up to 110%. 40 width panzer units with 110% bonus can get a soft attack of nearly 4k. Those are very hard for the Russian to stop.

As far as France, well my group only runs with 6 players so no one at the helm of France and they are always gone not later than March 1940. It is important to note whether there are rules about building forts and also whether Belgium and or Netherlands will have human players. These details dramatically change the situation.

Also relatively new (600hours). Tried to play some multiplayer but 95% of all games fail before 1937. If there are groups that are more committed to finishing a game, maybe playing at a slightly slower pace and multiple sessions, I'd be happy to hear.

on topic
Are their German players that also expand their navy? Maybe not to directly beat the RN but more to use it as a fleet in being to take some pressure of the Japanese?

If the two of you would register your games by linking your Paradox and Steam accounts per the instructions at the top of the forum, you will then be able to see the multiplayer sub-forum. The entire purpose of that section is to facilitate such match making.

Unfortunately even this strategy thread will likely get exiled to that area simply because the OP mentioned MP in the title.

Well usually to play Germany you'd have to have about +-500 hours played, and I can say that I've spend ~200 hours on Germany. I've also played a lot of the game when it came out on cracked version (because my friends didn't want to buy it), so I've actually got over 500 hrs. I know how to play properly, but like I've stated, if the France player is good - it's going to be a very hard game.

What I imagine doing is rushing 10 med 40 width tank divisions and starting the war as early as possible - so that the allies can't counter my tanks.

I'd like to ask you, when playing Germany, before entering the beneliux region (essentially war with allies) how many divisions must I have? (Properly equipped) and factories and so forth?

I'm usually at +100 inf 20width, 10 light and 10 med tanks of 40 width a few motorized of 20 width and about 40 inf of coast guards (20 width with engineers)
Don't remember the plane count, perhaps ~2.5k overall? And well over 100 military factories, this is all at december'ish 39.

Never build light tanks. 15/5 with 15 mediums and 5 motorised or mechs later is a good template. You can 10k planes as gemany if you know what your doing. As a newer player aim for 5k. Aim for as many tanks as you can and attack provinces with as many of them as you can. Look at air map mode before attacking make sure it is at least yellow, green is better. Attack from multiple angles perfably into plains provinces. Don't attack during winter or across rivers. Once you get better you can change up your build 20 width infantry can hold more ground and reinforce into battle quicker, 40 widths cause more damage and tend to be the meta now a days. Kill Poland and the beleux as quick as possible. Build up planning bonus with your tanks, delete battleplan and attack from multiple provinces add the infantry into the attack but make sure you don't attack with all of them use s to split and attack then select the rest and support attack. You can break any province. Does your server have rules against rushing techs?

Never build light tanks.

I've seen Germany use them successfully. Not in a 1937 Barbarossa, either.

They are easy to pierce, but you can make a swarm of them. And they can move quickly. Against an opponent who has even temporarily lost control of the air, they can be devastating. It's not always the right answer, but it's a possible right answer for beating the Soviets.

In our MP game, we've started paying more attention to what kinds of tanks we see Germany using in the Battle of France to anticipate what direction Germany is heading.

I would also say that non-German players should not discount the value of L-SPART in MOT divisions. As Britain, I can't really afford real armor divisions in 1939, but I can build a few MOT/L-SPART formations for use in North Africa. They are basically fast INF/ART divisions with some hardness. The Italians can usually pierce them, but that's not their job. Their job is to move fast in the deserts cheaply and carry the same firepower along with them that foot infantry would have.

I don't build LT ARM divisions as Germany either (at least not after 1939), but I do build about 20 or so MOT divisions for Barbarossa to use as exploitation unts. No LT-SPART though. I wish the game had MOT ART, as the vast majority of mobile artillery in the war was NOT SPART.

Well it does have motorized rocket artillery. That stuff is really good with its only real drawback being the somewhat late research year.

This is garbage advice. Quit telling people "You should not be playing [Nation Here] in a competitive lobby." People can play whatever nation they want, this isn't a job. How are people supposed to improve themselves besides playing in a competitive online setting?

This is a daily reminder that you can play whatever nation you want. The people that choose to obsess over how many hours you have before dictating what nation you are allotted to play are cancerous to the online community.

That they there is motorized rocket artillery makes it even stranger that there is no motorized artillery.

Excuse me person who said people who vet people are cancerous it is a matter of 16 people vs 1. If that one person ruins the game cus they not good enough for that nation people could have wasted as long as 6 hours. It's not about being Elitist it is smart practice. I've yet to see a competent germany with less than 900 hours against any of the decent soviets I know. If Germany dies to France wats the point in the game? I have been gracious enough to give advice to a fellow player. Off course people in lower skilled lobbies can play gemany but in most servers your see Soviets and germanys with 2000-3000 hours. The original poster came to my discord and learnt a lot. We teach people with less hours a major and when that elite player who is cooping with him believes he is ready, we will give them a crack. If we let anyone play anything we would end up wasting our lives away with out a good game ever. Just think about other people before you call them cancerous.
