Okay,

So i was gonna try Soviet, set the difficulty to Veteran and boosted Germany to the max.

I wait i wait, their troops never arrive at my border. So i switch tags to check what's up, and see this:

So here we have 456 divisions massed around Switzerland. Jesus Christ!

I just created a thread about Germany abandoning their border and I as Finland had to hold off the Allied invasion while they were just walking between China and East Poland.

Im getting pretty disappointed here, i just spend ~2 hours prepping my defense, and they are doing this...

Perfect example of why we don't need an expansion right now.... Maybe at 1.3 or 1.4?

do the Germans have NO divisions guarding thier borders at all?

I hope you have a save, I SOO want to hear stellVolt explaine this one (I really want to know the logic behind the Madness called, German AI)

PS: BTW, what is it with Germany AI calling all of its main theaters "Africa"? I've seen several screen shots of Barbarossa with the German AI calling the theater Africa....

This looks pretty bad, but perhaps this has to do with your modifications of the game. ("boosting Germany")

No?. how thats that make sense? boosting Germany gives then many bonuses at max level like :

+ 50% Entrenchment speed: (dig_in_speed_factor)
+ 50% Planning Speed: (planning_speed)
– 50% Supply Consumption: (Supply_consumption_factor)
+ 30% Division Recovery Rate: (army_morale_factor)
+ 4% Reinforce Rate: (land_reinforce_rate)

+30% Division Attack on core territory: (army_core_attack_factor)
+30% Division Defense on core territory: (army_core_defence_factor)

production/research
+30% Production Efficiency Cap: (production_factory_max_efficiency_factor)
+50% Production Efficiency growth: (production_factory_efficiency_gain_factor)
+50% Political Power gain: (political_power_factor)
– 20% Research Time: (research_time_factor)

xp gain
+50% Air Experience Gain: (experience_gain_air_factor)
+50% Army Experience Gain: (experience_gain_army_factor)
+50% Naval Experience Gain: (experience_gain_navy_factor)
+20% Division Experience Gain: (experience_gain_army_unit_factor)

as you can see, this helps the AI get Much more Divisions, and the -50% supply consumption might make the AI think "its not such a bad idea puting 465 Divisions against Switzerland, they are tow strong!"

HOWEVER, this simple fact is that diverting SOO many divisions(like all the divisions!!), even leaving other borders at much greater risk (like the Soviet union....) is Stupid! makes no sense and overkill!

at average only 5 -6 Divisions will participate in 1 battle per province. +400 Divisions are not going to contribute to the campaing at al!

Do I need to explain more?

I guess this is a good chance as any to share my similar experience while playing as Italy and seeing the Germany AI do questionable moves. In my game Germany kept moving it's troops back and forth between its eastern and western front in a never ending loop. only after a couple of months did it commit to an attack on France only to attack it through the maginot line over and over.

wtf is this paradox.

I did not save it, but this might help track the problem down: I restarted the game, and lo and behold Germany moved their troops to me and declared war.

Yeah, this. For whatever reason the AI gets fixated on one front. I have learned to restart about every 3 months or so just to reset the AI, even more often during wartime. It does seem to help. @SteelVolt Is it possible to create a weekly or monthly trigger to reset the AI so it reconsiders what it is doing?

Another bug in the AI: I notices that USA invaded Italy, but i did not want to win the war b/c of Allied in 42, so i though i would checkout what Italy did. Turns out, they didnt even have a front assigned. I added one, and assigned 24 divisions to it which were in Istanbul area at that time.

Switched back to Soviet, let a few days go by then switched back to Italy, only to see that Italy did not find a path to their mainland, so then i manually had to ask Romania for military access (still as Italy) to let them get through. The AI should be able to ask for military access itself, imo, especially when it's core terrority is getting blitzed unopposed.

Maybe they are desperate to get some good chocolate? You know, withso much uber power in their muscles they consume a lot of energy, and chocolate is really good to regain that energy.

In the meantime I have notices some more severely game breaking bugs/AI-behavious. I have uploaded a zip-file containing:

1. Screenshots with describing text in them or describing file-name of the screenshots
2. Save games of the game
3. A text summary, also following here:


This game was played as Soviet on Veteran, with Germany strength boosted to the max.

ItalyAbandoningFront.hoi4: A save while Tag-switchd to Italy when Italy is not manning the front with invading USA. Not even a division in Rome while USA is adjacent.

GermanyDoomed.hoi4: Efter 2-3 years of constant attacking from Germany while they have 600 Divisions along the line has caused them to be trivial to beat now.

1. Italy did not have any troops on the front when USA invaded, even though i tag-switched surely four times to deploy units to the front.

2. Germany put 600 divisions on the front between romania and lithuania, causing crazy attrition.

I decided it was more challenging to play as Germany at this point and switched to play as them in 1944, after this atteched save. I noticed the following:

1) 5k fighters deployed in east asia, redeployed them to get air superiority.
2) All Adults Served when Service By Requirement was more than sufficent
3) Was not using War Economy
4) Was using Free Trade causing severe resource shortages
5) Was not garrisoning any provice, causing extreme partisan activity, almost no factories working
7) Infantry Equipment: 200k deficit
8) Navy unused
9) As i said, 600 divisions between Lithuania and Romania, causing high attrition.

Conclusion: It is more challenging to try to make this game challenging than you will get it to be.
