Ok, while we're busy worrying about Germany's penchant for destroying its own army in Allied games, I'm having the opposite problem in my Italy game.

To cut a long story short, the Nationalists won the Spanish Civil War, I celebrated victory by DoWing them. Come Danzig event, I immediately launch an attack on Gibraltar from occupied Spain whilst simultaneously making an amphibious landing in Palestine so as to capture Suez.

With the RN thus trapped in the Med, I start working my way northwards across the Pyrenees. Germany takes Strasbourg and Metz as you would expect, but seems strangely reluctant to move into an empty Metz. I capture it before retreating divisions can reoccupy the level 10 land fort, and trade it to them. They seem a little reluctant to press their advantage but I put this down to still being in the Phoney War AI. Around the time I'm finishing off France, they make a landing in southern England. Normal service has been resumed I'm thinking.

Fall Wesserubung fired, and Denmark fell. But it seems Germany will now only move troops into empty provinces. Not a single Norwegian province has been captured, and they've failed to land more than the initial 10 divisions in the UK, or advance across the Thames.

Fall Gelb has now kicked off, but despite odds of 7:1 in their favour, they do not attack Luxembourg, Belgium or the Netherlands. I'm trying to do so as Italy, in the hope that if I can move them past this sticking point, the next AI switch will trigger.

But I can't do everything myself. Their forces in England remain unreinforced and are in danger of being driven back to the sea. For some reason, there is a 26 division stack in Rostock , 5 in Dieppe, and 3 in Brest (an undefended province they Ninja'd from me).

It's now June 1940. While Luxembourg sits defiant on their border, and Norway continues to draft catchy Eurovision hits across the Baltic, there is, for some reason, a stream of German TP sailing south of Madagascar. Where are they going?

I've tried using DebugAI, it shows switch GER_Sub_Patrol2 is the active file. Their production queue has two lines of Interceptors, one of INF, one MOTO, one PARA, one HQ, one line of subs, Convoy escorts, and three lines of Transports (!) . Also a few infra upgrades.

Is there anyway I can "fix" Germany? They should be rampant right now, if I play on like this I may pay the price for Germany's failure when USA/USSR go to war..

I guess the original problem was the Phoney War AI. Did Vichy trigger? It sounds like Italy controls many French provinces. Can you post the save? There might be a way to see all the AI switch files that have been triggered in the save. You could take MC of Germany by editing the save, but obviously this will require a lot of micromanagement.

But in regards to Sealion, the AI not reinforcing an amphibious landing seems to be universal and appears to be hardcoded.

Well, I'm glad to see there is such a great variety in the German AI. I was getting worried that my AAR might be "run of the mill."

A simple save/reload seemed to get them off their butts, they started making attacks again, though they still had only 11 divisions in UK and every time they captured a province they lost another somewhere else. I sent over 12 Italian divisions and gave them as expeditionary forces, and finally the AI was able to finish the job. Hooray.

I turned my attention back to the middle east, liberated a Fascist puppet in India, tried to build some infrastructure in what used to be Iran in preparation for the inevitable.

USSR came knocking in 1943, I planned a daring move with parachutists to trap soviet border forces, and needed just a little longer so my planes would upgrade and have the range. Unfortunately I didn't have a few months. Germany had been building stacks of doom in Rostock (70 divisions) Konigsberg (20 divisions) and Elbing (18 divisions) but only 1 division per province in between. Beach provinces throughout their empire were well guarded too, with another stack of 15 in Dunkerque for some reason. Of course, such a distribution of forces allowed the soviets to rapidly infiltrate the gaps between and pocket these superstacks. Within two months I had the red army coming across the Alps and crossing the river Po, game over.

What AI file comes up for Germany when you do the "debugai" F12 thingy?
