From my experience free market would be better even though you have less IC germany does make up for it in ministers etc and overall the much cheaper units and unit upgrades means germany can make much more with much less IC anyway.

Even though this might come to a TC problem that is not too much important when you consider the need to make many units in much less time not to mention upgrade them.

What is your take on this? Do you like central planning better or free market?.

I do both, really. :p I'd be curious to see if someone has actually calculated which is most beneficial to Germany since I usually hesitate between the two as well... Though since maximum free market isn't possible thanks to the authoritarian rule, I usually go for central planning in the end when I have enough resources anyway.

I tack towards free market, even though with Nat Soc govt I can only go one 'click' past the midpoint...still, that -5% off upgrade is worth it to me :)

Also, I can save my other slider adjustments to move my army over to "Standing" ASAP.

But, but, but... But the +25% IC is just beautiful, and my eyes are always watery when I reach full CP... :p

Germany has 2 problems, Manpower and TC.

Manpower is something that you can minimize with use of brigades to increase your firepower without extra divisions. TC is TOTALLY dependent upon ICs. Anything that increases ICs is great in my book. The amount you gain in ICs and TCs is MUCH better than what you get savings in upgrades at the minimal levels of Free Market that Germany can get to.

Also remember that Free Market increases your consumer goods need, which means you're spending more ICs EVERY DAY to keep dissent down, and decreasing dissent is more expensive than without.

For Germany it's a no brainer, go Central Planning.

German manpower is not a problem in all my games....I build lots of tanks and around a large amount of inf and still have a very large amount of manpower. If anything germany has too much manpower from events and such. (The manpower problem is only a problem if you was to make a hell of a lot of inf and use it to brute force your way through a soviet union....you need to be a different tactic than that)

Having FULL central planning makes upgrading units take +25 percent longer as well as no benefit to making new units.

Yea, germany cant max it but what does that matter it saves you getting the +25 penalty to upgrading and for tanks that is vital. You also gain a reasonable time off new units.

The main question is does the normal build time and long upgrade time save more ICs than the cheaper units and MUCH less upgrade time do?.

Andrew

Of course but not even having full free market still means you dont get the +25 penalty to upgrading units which for a tank army would be vital.

I tried central planning and found upgrading my tanks all 100 of them before barbarossa was a real pain and i had to devote so much IC to it. Even then many tanks werent improved medium.

However with free market i was able to upgrade the whole lot just in time. While still maintaining a good production level.

+25 is nice however german ministers give you tons of IC anyway plus once you have finished conquring all europe (Apart from UK, norway etc) you should have around 400 base IC anyway. Which is a lot.

For Germany it's not even a choice. Central Planning is CLEARLY superior.

2 issues

1. It's not a choice between full Free Market or full Central Planning. It's a choice between 5% production bonus or 25% extra IC and 25% more TC.

2. The size of Germany's military is not constrained by IC, it's constrained by Manpower and TC. If I don't stop building units sometime in '40 I will run out of manpower.

If you go completely ahistoric and start the war really early you could be okay on manpower if you conquer all of Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa by sometime in '40. I prefer starting the war historically though on 8/30/39 so I typically only have Europe, Scandanavia, the Middle East, India, and the east side of Africa by the end of '40.
