As Saxony I managed to reform Germanic religion by about 830. Its now 940 and I'm absolutely sick and tired of being raided by other Germanic characters and hosts. Its just constant. Scandinavia and Saxony / Poland etc is all Germanic. I have an Imperial Saxony Comprising Saxony, Scotland, Netherlands, Germany, Pomerania, Poland and Bohemia.
Unfortunately France is a mess of revolt and split kingdoms and the Muslims have advanced into aquitane, but thats another story.

What I'd like to know is does the raiding stop at any point ?
Why would I get raided as the Fylkyr of their religion ?

If this is meant to be I would like to set my vassals to deal with it. I don't mean a few months after they landed either, but IMMEDIATELY. Sorry, but this drives me mad. I'm pretty sure as Emperor of Saxony I should be able to tell my kings to deal with these bands of scum.

Next - ambition. As a saxon emperor there virtually is none to choose from. Why ?
Are there any other additions / improvements to come for the Germanic religion or is that now it ?

It would be good to see continual evolution if possible to keep things interesting. Otherwise, it now just settles into creating a blob and moving armies around to stop raiders.

Raiding will never stop, unless you control the entire map. Or at least take over all of the raiding capable realms.

Regarding Ambitions, there aren't a whole lot in the Vanilla game. No one has many to choose from, so it's pretty normal to not have any later on in a characters reign.

Are you sure they are your religion? You as Fylkir are Germanic but they must be old Germanic to raid you I think. Where are these people coming from?

Pretty sure the AI can raid anyone as a raiding culture/religion/gov't now. I know the player has been able to for a long time.

You are facing the Hobo Viking problem. I faced this problem awhile back in my Lithuanian Romuva Republic game.

The short version:

Hobo Vikings (that is, raiding culture/religion characters that have lost their land but still have troops) are created all over the map. Pagans lose their realm, they might become hobos. Altaic culture rulers lose their lands? They might become hobos. All of these Hobo Vikings are being created by actions taking place all over the map, and there is not a lot you can do about it directly. They tend to gravitate towards lands that are worth raiding; that usually means player realms.

In that sense, you are never going to quite be rid of them.

However, there are things you can do to cut down on their attacks.

1) Annex all pagans or convert them to non-pagan faiths (if you are a reformed Pagan, you may still get Hobo Vikings from dispossessed characters from your own realm, but they won't be that common). This will not immediately stop attacks, but if you exterminate them, there will no longer be a steady supply of pagan realms capable of creating Hobo Vikings. The volatile nature of most non-reformed pagan realms means that people lose lands all the time, creating the conditions to create hobos. If you wipe them out, you get one last huge wave of hobos, but then the supply dies up.

2) If you are a merchant republic, always keep the capital garrisoned with your retinue, or raise your levies and keep the capital covered. Even if they cannot breach the walls of your holdings, the loss of revenue in the capital of the republic from a 300 man Hobo Viking army raiding is substantial. If the hobos land, let them land somewhere else.

3) Always try to inflict as much damage on hobos as possible. Do not just try to defeat them, but try to annihilate them. If they get away, they might come back.

Thanks for the replies. Most helpful to understand a little more. I would still like the option to get my vassals to ' auto intercept ' however to cut down this annoying and frustrating feature. I tend to now go for post viking era starts as I really find the amount of raids ( or having to deal with them anyway ) really boring. I actually dont mind the concept - however maybe it could be more abstract ? Like a hit to income and levies for each abstract raid with a message to say, for example, ' Gelre was raided by Svipod - They stole 10 gold and killed 100 levies. ' ?
Perhaps this could be an ' option ' for gameplay ?

The funny thing is I have also had 2 host armies raised in my capital, but they didn't attack my capital until I sent armies there...

They are all reformed Germanic - old germanic is gone.

I'm afraid you'll have to blob and annex all of Scandinavia. I'm surprised they can raid if they're the same religion. I was under the impression you could only raid infidels.

Catholic Hwicce and Brittany were my preferred targets as a tribal Irish duke (because they were nearby, rich, and single counties). There's no restriction on whom you can raid, though sacking your own religion's temples is kinda dumb because it lowers moral authority.

Hopefully this isn't WAD that's kind of ridiculous.

You know it was completelly normal to raid people with the same religion...?

They never updated it. That was true in TOG, but I think it changed somewhere in the CM patches so that all Tribals could raid anyone.

Same faith AI should not actually raid you; game mechanics allow to do it but it is hard coded not to. I tried toogling it on and then you will see landlocked same faith neighbours raiding by land too.

It is kind of necessary as per game mechanics as otherwise you loose prestige if you're a landlocked vassal and a -2 monthly prestige for the average count means no prestige building and eternal stagnation.

Which mostly makes sense. The tooltip needs to be changed, but I'm pretty sure that a lot of raiders never worried too much about the religion of those they were raiding---they were more concerned with how much loot they could expect, and how much resistance they were likely to encounter.
