German unification question

I have been considering for a while now whether or not it might be interesting to play a small German state, i.e Gotha or someone, will the German unification event still fire and what happens to me if it does?

Has anyone played a German state before?

They will still fire but you can object to be annexed. Although Germany might try to conquer you as it has cores on you
However, Playing as Bavaria or Hanover might be fun but the extreme Minors like Gotha? I doubt it.

I'm not aware of any way for anyone except Prussia to form Germany in vanilla, unfortunately, so you won't be able to form it yourself. You are given the option to not join, however, so it won't be game over if the unification happens. Though Germany won't necessarily be friendly to you, since you'll have their cores...

Bavaria and Frankfurt am Main can form the South and North German Confederations, respectively, if you do want to create a partial merger. You'll want to carefully check out the event chains for those if you are going to take that route.
