I am playing Germany in the 1936 Grand Campaign.

(Started yesterday right after receiving the game... :D - now I'm back at work and feel exaustet after a short night with weird dreams)

I have a question concerning the Infantry tech tree though:

basic motorized Infantry shows:

historical date 1942 the tech will give you motorized infantry type 1940.

This seems like a paradoxon  ;)

1. Motorized Infantry was certainly around before 1942 in history...
2. The improved motorized then shows an earlier date than the basic motorized (1941 if I remeber correctly)

-> This leads me to the question if the late historical date for basic mot. inf. is WAD (working as designed) to make researching motorized Infantry extremely expensive (due toi the research penalty when doing so years before the "historical" date) ?
-> Or is this just a typo in the tech tree that will hurt the german player (i.e. a bug :eek:o ) ?

Anyway - I'm really looking forward to this weekend of HoI2 :D and my wife hates it allready (even though she ordered it for me as a christmas present... )
Sofar it has been a great experience and a vast improvement over HoI 1 which I have played for two years without pause....

Thanks for this great game

No paradox at all (pun very much intended :p), the discrepancy inbetween the motorized infantry type (1940) and its historical year (1942) is intended, according to Johan (Pdox head honcho) in a previous post. The reason is to make it difficult to take the first steps into motorized warfare, ie heavy research penalties when researched before 1942 - thus effectively limiting this powerful tech to the major industrial nations like Germany.

Let's see if I can dig up Johans post, stay tuned... :)

EDIT: dang, that pesky monkey beat me to it! <C3PO voice>Curse my metal body, I wasn't fast enough!</C3PO voice> Oh well, saves me some work. :p
