German Reich - Isn't there a better name?

I would really like to see an event that historically accurate renames the "German Reich" to "Greater German Reich" or "Greater Germanic Reich of German Nation" for the "Endsieg". Same for other nations if possible.
Would be a nice detail and a next step towards the perfect WW2 simulator!

Implement Dynamic Names to completely cover your territory: Start with Japan, turn into Empire of Japan while battling your way into China, and when you're a Pacific-Spanning colossus, become the Japanese Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere!

Germany wasn't really an empire post-WW1, so it is hard to translate "Reich" in a meaningful manner.

Well, in this case you shouldn't use the name Soviet Union, which is also made up of a Russian word and an English word.

I like German Reich. I'm not English or German, so it doesn't sound strange to me.

Should they decide to change it, then maybe German Realm, so that it's not that much different.

German Realm sounds silly. It was never called that by anyone.

I can see that and you are walking a fine line. Many describe the war today as the war against 'Nazi Germany' not the war against 'Germany'. I think 'Third Reich' sounds better, but not sure if the causal gamer today would 'Get it' as being Germany. The ignorance level in the U.S. is very high, but I am not sure if that is so true for people who play Paradox games.

The Third Reich is a very famous name and anyone would understand it.

I would bet $5.00 if you went up to 100 college age kids in the U.S. and ask them 'What was the Third Reich?' less than half could tell you. Now how many of them are in the planned demographic for HOI IV I don't know. I do think the planned Demographic for HOI IV is different the the Demographic for HoI3.

I complained about this earlier - German Reich looks odd and out of place compared to the other countries, because no other country uses the base name of the country + a descriptor of its current government. "French Republic" or "Japanese Empire" isn't present.

So I'd like to see it as just "Germany" but I suppose modders can solve this.

I don't think it's about the average American being ignorant as much as it is about the average person being ignorant. I would also think the planned demographic would be the same as all PDS games. Going from this websites statistics that would probably be any European or American male between the age of 15-45.

Because those are translatable
Reich isn't really translatable, no, as its connotations are different enough from those of any English term so as to make it really hard to map to an English lexeme. Regno and Federatsiya are not that difficult to translate, while Heimat (to name a different example) would be much bigger a challenge

Other than that, I don't mind "German Reich" but I don't think it should be used to distance the regime from today's Germany. That's just silly and it's basically erasure policy xP

I noticed that in recent developer diary Germany is named German Reich is it really the best possible name for Germany? Such amalgamation of German and English sounds pretty weird, kinda like La Troisième Republic. Why won't You call it German State or Deutsches Reich? I know that it's called like this on wikipedia but I've read a fair share of books and this form appears somewhat rare. It may also be also applied to Weimar Republic and German Empire which makes it an unnecesarily broad term that sometimes causes confusion. In previous games Tausendjähriges Reich was simply called Germany, don't you think that it was better like that?

That was the official name of the German state in that period.Reich translates to realm, but that is a synonim for the Reich word in english rather then a proper translation.

Saying German Realm is strange, so a compormise was made, the OFFICAL name of the German state in English WAS German Reich.

It can`t be empire because that is Kaiserreich.
