It gives more flavor, and disassociates that regime from todays Germany.

I can see that and you are walking a fine line. Many describe the war today as the war against 'Nazi Germany' not the war against 'Germany'. I think 'Third Reich' sounds better, but not sure if the causal gamer today would 'Get it' as being Germany. The ignorance level in the U.S. is very high, but I am not sure if that is so true for people who play Paradox games.

So what? Kintergarten is legit English (unless i made a typo), but it actually is not English word. Enormous amount of words in English language are not just from foreigner origin like in many languages, but they are not even what you could call "English". English language does not have word for word "reich", so why not use that word instead? It is already common and most people know what it means. (or am i over-estimating how much people know?)
German Reich is quite accurate name.

I looked for my American English to British English dictionary (I do have one), but it wasn't on the shelf were it should be. Is Kindergarten used outside the U.S.? The U.S. has had a strong 'Dutch' influence since our early days. ('Dutch' is what we called Germans living in America and if any of them were actually Dutch it would be more rare). I had a major discussion some years ago on what is modern English. How wildly used a word has to be to be 'English'.

No dynamic names in HoI 4 unfortunately :/

Is this confirmed? Sucks if true. It means we will have to create multiple country tags for each nation.

It gives more flavor, and disassociates that regime from todays Germany.

Can we please have dynamic country names and flags for us modders? pretty please o'mighty Johan :eek:o

Isnt it Kindergarden with an "d" instead of an "t" in english? Since the USA are founded by colonists naturally the german, french and several other languages heaviely influenced the english language. Infact in alot of states most people have german ancestors, but due to ww1 and ww2 alot of them didnt speak german in public due to the fear of getting socially isolated due to the crisises in germany during that periodes and the probably not to nice propaganda (as if propaganda was uncommon during that periodes) during that time against germany. Today only roughly 2 million german-americans admit to speak german at home so alot that is left are pretty much the loan words (dont know if thats the right translation). As far as i know when it came to the decision of the official languages of the United States german nearly won that vote if i recall correctly.

Your misspelling the word, Dutch means people like me from the Netherlands, u mean Deutsche (Germans) :) Alot people make that mistake because it sounds the same but its not. :)

something flavorful i'd like to see that would solve any/all naming disputes: map name and diplomatic name. it's the best of both worlds; the name identifying the country on a map stays the same for the whole session barring a burma/myanmar-esqe fundamental name change or unification/split. "germany" "greece" "nat./com. china". but have the official name of the country shown in the diplomacy screen. "German Reich/3rd Reich/Nazi Germany" "Federal Republic of Germany" "Hellenic Republic" "republic of China/People's Republic of China". WE NEED THIS!!!

I would really like to see an event that historically accurate renames the "German Reich" to "Greater German Reich" or "Greater Germanic Reich of German Nation" for the "Endsieg". Same for other nations if possible.
Would be a nice detail and a next step towards the perfect WW2 simulator! :)

I am a native German. So, from my pov, German Empire refers to the Kaiser and Bismarck and stuff like that. German Reich on the other hand, refers to the Third Reich, Hitler and WW2. It's not a slap for me actually. However I'd like to see - if the Soviet Union is defeated - that the player has the option to rename Germany to the Greater Germanic Reich.

Well, how about neutral modern names - Reich 3.0 squaring off against France 3.0 (with a lot of undisclosed patches) and the colorless George VI, but in the wings we have the popular i-Taly and the clunky CCCP, which is 300-something in Roman numerals (must reflect many cycles of cut-and-paste revisionism).

OK, so my brain does this sometimes on issues like this.

All in all I agree, but in my opinion it's just a detail. "German Empire" or "German Reich" is correct, "Third Reich" would be de facto wrong.

No dynamic names in HoI 4 unfortunately :/

For some reason, this makes me immensely sad. I mean, really? C'mon, guys, it's a game about being able to forge your own path through history.

On topic: Reich is one of those German words that has no literal English translation, so "German Reich" IS correct, though it does sound weird. Personally, I would prefer names to be romanizations of their respective languages i.e. Deutschland, Zhōnghuá, Francaise, etc.

That way, it's at least mildly educational and helps spread knowledge.
