German Reich as Democracy?

Hello I'm German but I don't like the hole stuff of nazism at all. So I wonder if it would be possible to play a democratic German Reich, e. G. If something like the Staufenberg assassination wouldn't have failed and would have happened earlier like in 1937 or 1938.
Is there a kind of way to play like this confirmed or are there plans that this is eventually possible?

There are ways to steer the Reich towards democracy using national foci.

However, don't expect a "Hitler kills himself" button.

Also, people should start reasoning if they are going to disagree like that.

It looks like this will be possible, but hard. It will cause a civil war you'll have to win, and don't expect that to happen within a few months just because you want it to happen like that.

And if you mention assassinations on Hitler, please don't give your credit to Stauffenberg, who was a faithful Nazi as long as things went good. There are quite a few people, especially Georg Elser, who deserve it much more to be mentioned in this context.

I didn't intend that, but I think its important to tell people that seem to not know that the most famous try wasn't the only and especially not the most sincere one.

Each country has 3 ideologists that can steer a country into one of the three ideology (democracy, fascism, communism) if you appoint one of them as "minister". So you can have a democrat Germany, a fascist USA, a communist United Kingdom, etc. But it takes some time (don't expect a democratic Germany in february 1936) and can end up in a civil war.

As factions appear to be far more flexible in HoI4, with them forming and dissolving fluently (the Germans can disband the Axis and replace it with a German-Soviet Faction for example), I doubt that this would really be a reason of hindering.

I think something like that was quickly visible in the latest WWW. I'll try to look it up.

EDIT: Found it: the Soviet focus tree decision "Alliance with the USSR" will let Germany and USSR form the "Berlin-Moscow faction" and disband Axis. See it in the video below:

Well, if Germany & Soviets sign the Unholy Alliance, the original Axis is dismantled, and all democractic & fascist states gets very upset about them.

So you'll most likely end up with USA, UK, France, Italy & Japan on one side, and Germany & Soviet on the other.,

Germany, starting out as axis leader, has the second option of joining the "Berlin-Moscow faction".
Lacking a similar decision to join the allies or comintern, that'd still be a no-go, right?

In any event I just realized I probably missed the point entirely since ideology/government type is distinct from faction (afaik).

There were other possibilities for sure. But in my eyes as someone who is German and feels German but has in part Jewish ancestors, it feels totally wrong to play my country with the only possibility to be a nazi. E. G. there have been huge groups of members of the kpd and SPD wich were persecuted. Why shouldn't they even have a possibility to try to change the way their country is ruled.

The Berlin-Moscow faction is practically close to joining the Comintern. Also I think you don't really need a decision to join a faction, I think an Axis-Allied group effort against Communism is possible too.

Now seriously. I think that bringing democracy might be an interesting option but there is one quote that intrigues me (from the Japan DD)

If Japan doesn't plan to reform towards democracy and settle with what they have they need to aggressively expand as early as possible and grab resources to fuel their war machine and build up their navy to be able to rival the other major nations.

The game allows it, but lets be honest here, a national socialistic germany is the driving force of the entire game, it would be kinda dull without.

Well that settles it for me. So the OP will be able to strive for his wish of a democratic Germany.
Personally, I wouldn't go for it (I'd rather go full Nazi or beat the crap out of the Krauts), but I think it's awesome that the game offers this degree of choice

My 'Democratic' Germany will still be very Prussian, Nationalist, and expansionist
